The stereo port on my motherboard is broken and i need a replacement sound card

Does the cheapest x-fi work with vista 64bit ? I have 4gb ram as well

I only want decentish stereo sound. Thats all

Or should i get an asus xonar?

If you use certain drivers then it may well work. I run that setup with no problems, whereas others have changed their sound card.

If you don't want the front bay then get the Xonar - it's supposed to be a better card.

Hmm are ther any problems with IP35 pro board?

I cna't buy the xonar on the high street, Could pick up the xtrememusic for cheapish on the shops.

I dont want the front bay obviously. Tbh i want stereo sound in vista x64 lol

Check added features on the beta drivers, looks like CL have been slapped into adding features which they removed previously. Thanks to that DIY driver bloke a while ago no doubt..

Sorry

I'm realy not bothered about features.

I need it to be stable in music/games, etc. No fancy eax or anything is really needed.

the 4gb problem is worrying me

Well gaming means a X-Fi card either CL own or rebranded Asus etc. As for music then there's M-Audio/Emu etc but those have no hardware D3D mixing or hardware later EAX, usually EAX2 in software. M-Audio seem to be a bit rubbish with driver updates as well. Any that release at least bi-monthly?

I am looking for something basic here matey.

Works fine for me, but then I was under the impression the 'cheapest' X-Fi wasn't a 'real' X-Fi

Well as i've said before i dont need anything fancy

I've answered the orignial question...

It doesn't work is the answer. The drivers install, I reboot and then I get unable to load application error, lol what a joke!

Any ideas. I 've downloaded the latest drivers off the website. Might try the ones on the CD

i'm moving my xfi from my 4gb media centre (doesn't seem to have problems with it on newer drivers) to my 8gb gaming pc tonight

mine's an original launch xfi music, fingers crossed it'll be fine

in xp, this card really really rocked, now I'm not so confident with it..

My bad, installed drivers off the cd and now its working, there are no full drivers on the net then, just the update which i tried to install and failed

Working like a charm so far, Will post if it gives trouble

I can't run my X-Fi XtremeMusic with 4GB problerly in Vista x64. I have to disable Memory Hole in BIOS, which gives me just under 3GB. With 4GB I just get quiet pops and clicks - no recognisable sound though. Not tried the new beta drivers yet but it's been the same result in every driver set so far.

I got a XFI fatality champion (X-ram version) and it works a treat in 64bit with the beta drivers.

^^^ You never no m8 try the beta drivers they flash the firmware and may kick it back into life:D

Betas installed. Restart. Into BIOS. Disable memory hole. Check all 4GB recongised. Load Vista. Pop. Silence. Same as every other time.

Going to test onboard soon and then it's Xonar time when I can afford one.

Edit: and it killed my ability to play mp3s. Rollback. Phew. All's well.

After installing an ATI 4870 I had massive issues with my card however I got the new Beta drivers and that seemed to fix everything.

mine's not working in my main machine, just moved it to it

really annoying, can't boot into windows (safemode is ok) and crashes when trying to install drivers (tried the new beta's and the last set, will try the daniel_k ones now i guess :S )

do creative offer lifetime support?

anything else i can try?

different pci slot maybe?
have 8gb ram, vista 64 and p35-ds3R motherbopard

christ, after hours of trying youpax/daniel_k/creative drivers

i switched pci slot and it worked fine with the newest beta creative drivers
