dunno if it's just some random X-FI cards that are bad, my Xtreme Music works fine in Vista64 with 8gb memory as did my Elite Pro before i sold it on.....never experienced the popping/crackling etc
working fine as in analogue gaming in 5.1 and also through a digital connection.
I dont know if you lot know, but creative did release a CD for later X-Fi's that was made for Vista.
I expect it's got the same drivers as on their site, but all the apps should instal if you need them and maybe more compatable with Vista drivers.
I bought the aforementioned cheap card from OcUK this week (Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio). I'm running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. The drivers on the CD installed just fine, but the sound quality was AWFUL. Seriously bad
Mid range is fine, but any high points or bassy bits sound seriously distored and like the speakers/headphones are under water almost. I've tried updating the drivers using the web update, the drivers straight from the website and any others I could find. Nothing helped.
Pretty disappointed tbh. I'm back with onboard sound and a £30 card I can't do anything with except maybe stick it in the kids' XP Pro machine to at least save wasting it. Bah.
I had everything turned off, and while the sound was generally really nice, all the high and bassy bits were just awful. It meant I'd be playing a song or video and it'd be awesome then every 10 seconds or so there'd be a loud/bassy bit and it'd distort to hell. "Squelchy" is a word I'd use, or "garbled". I've tried with all the tweaks disabled, turning on one at a time, combining them, different PCI slots, you name it. The card's back in the bag on my desk now and I wish I'd never bought it tbh (it's not like I have money to throw away)
