An X-Fi for £25 is amazing really.

Its the Extreme Audio OEM. Will this still play games ok and will it support EAX HD?

EDIT : To answer my own question - Ive had a look on creatives website and No it dosent support EAX so no good for gaming.

DONT DO IT!

I notice you have an Nvidia chipset....Nvidia chipsets and X-Fi have so many compatability issues, its untrue.

Look in Creative forum or this forum for lots of threads regarding problems with this card!

its only on some xfi cards with some firmware. I have the gamer xfi and have no issues at all on asus a8n32 sli

I'd still be interested in how it does in games, not really concerned about cpu load but I think its more then that.

One of the best things about the xfi is the eax, its really impressive even on a cheap pair of headphones. I know where that dam tank is going to pop up next, helps a lot

Does using onboard sound take up much cpu time? I'm building a new pc at mo, just for gaming. Would using onboard sound make much diff to fps?

Purchased mine as recently as 12th December 2006 (before doing my homework) *slaps wrist* and had no end of problems with it...just giving you some advice from first hand experience mate. Like I said, check out all the threads in this forum and Creatives from people with Nvidia chipsets and this card

Dont say I didnt warn you! :p

Yeah i saw the threads as i rwad them a while ago. As far as i know all the problems with the original X-Fi were solved either by a BIOS update on the board or a new firmware on the X-Fi.

There was another issue recently that involved the X-Fi and SLI on newer 680i boards but i think thats been solved now as well

So the XtremeGamer is still fully functional though? At the same price, would it be better to get an XtremeGamer or an XtremeMusic?

Cheers,

Suman

My X-Fi gamer has just gone up on MM lol

Its Nforce4 chipsets that the major issue appears to be with, I emailed Creative with loads of detail and they have replied 4 times now asking me to try something I have already listed. I loved the card when I ran it in my other Shuttle but this really has made me sick of Creative.

I'm only in this forum as I was looking for an alternative card to replace it with from another manufacturer.

Suggestions please? :)

my mobo is nforce 4 (asus a8n32-sli latest bios too) and I have had no issues at all, I also have an nvidia card. Sounds like a batch of nf4 mobos (maybe a particular brand group or model?) are having issues really.

Could be, again, I'm running mine on the DFI mobo (nForce4 chipset). No problems.
