x-fi problems

At least you get windows :P Cant get mine to even startup, tried bios, chipset drivers, disabling onboard sound, uninstalling old drivers, changing slots... no good, gonna try this driver cleaner and then I'm sending it back.

complain to creative.

Took me a good 3 weeks and threat of legal action for them to accept the card was faulty :)

They sent me a newer one and it just, worked perfectly.

ok i took his 2 year old card back to a national pc shop and swapped it for a brand new x-fi gamer. bit cheeky i know.

still no joy, not even reconising the card.

here's what i've tried

-updated the bios
-downgraded the bios
-non creative drivers
-reservering pci slots
-fresh windows install
-nforce4 chipset drivers
-different pci slots

last thing left to try is get the original chipsegt drivers from the disk that came with the mobo. still need to get that off my mate, after that i'm giving up and he's gonna have to be stuck with on board sound.

if anyone has any suggestion, im willing to try it?

i read a fix once, here goes..

dont attempt if your 100% comfy with it, obviously..

wrap a piece of cut-to-size cardboard in tinfoil and stick it inbetween the soundcard and the main pc (above the sc and under the gfx card so to say)

It acts as an EMI shield and should theortically stop any interferences and allow the card to work. (you know that big case on the xonar soundcard is it? Same job.)

Still, i dont hold responsibility if your pc fries, shorts or anyone dies. I'm just saying i heared of the fix when I had problems and a few people said it worked. :)

X-Fi papping/crackling for a split second every x minutes (where x mins is a rando in
