I've heard that the X-fi drivers load up around 6 processes at startup. In my opinion that is an awful lot for a sound card and was wondering if its possible to disable any of these without causing any problems?

Yeah this is depending on the software you install with it

I install the bare minimum, which is the drivers and volume controler panel. And i had 4 starting up:

CTHELPER - Can disable
CTXFIHLP - Can disable
VolPanel - Can choose not to start up if you want
CTXFISPI - Must leave enabled

Thanks for the reply! Is the volume control panel the thing that lets you change modes and configure each one? I've read CTXFISPI is for auto headphone detection, I guess this isn't necessary?

Yeah sorry, i've always been led to beleive that CTXFISPI must be left enabled, but i've just turned it off and renamed the exe to stop it starting again, and having no problems

Down to 17 services in Windows now :D

I have 19 services at startup (well after about a minute of idleness). If disabled the ati services (for 2d/3d mode) and my anti-virus I'd get down to 15.

Be careful with the X-fi startup processes I did a bit too much msconfiging and ended up with my volume auto lowering, raising the sound bar did no good it autoed to 0 volume.

Heres my startup process for my X-fi pro kit.

CTXFIHLP
CTHELPER
Volpanel
DLLML
CTDVDDET

Ive decided to just leave it on all of them, not gonna have that issue before !

CTDVDDET can be removed by going into the config section of the dvd audio playing app and unticking auto launch. It's only needed if you have dvd audio discs and want the player to auto launch when you insert one.
