X-fi Titanium Install Disaster

Hi all, I built my new pc yesterday and disaster stuck..

when installing the sound card I placed the card in the top pci-e slot above the gpu and the front I/O panel in a drive bay

I connected the analog and digital cables between the two and powered on

cue smoke and a burning smell from the smaller of the two cable connections from the sound card end.. now the sound card seems to work fine but the panel is dead ... volume doesn't work the buttons aren't lit up .. why did this happen? I checked the connections and tried again... no joy

Im sending the card back but I still don't know what happened

cables wrong way round? faulty card/panel...could be a few things

Ahhh, ive only had this happen to me twice and that was when i was being a bit dim, and managed to wire a led or a usb backwards, so that's probably what went wrong
