X-Fi vista and alchemy drivers.

I still can't get sp-dif output with these drivers, is that normal or have I not got it set up right? I remember these was a problem with Vista and sp-dif when Vista came out but not used it for 6 months, I'd thought it'd be fixed by now.

Source engine based games don't use OpenAL, no. The onboard sound quality is more than likely dependant on the motherboard components, not just the chip.

According to Realtek website the HD audio chips have their own DACs and ADCs so would not fall under the same low-end-league as standard AC97 - judging by the sound quality I experienced this certainly seems the case (I output to a NAD amp btw) - it's not as crisp in separating the soundstage as the XFI but it's miles ahead of normal onboard :p

No, for stability you need to install the drivers fresh, so do as modo77 said and everything will work just fine. I've not had any issues and all my gripes with the xfi on Vista have been resolved by these drivers.

Mrk, what system setup do you have? All the people getting the process_has_locked_pages BSOD are running Vista x64, 32-bit users don't appear to be affected. Have you tried running an OpenAL game under the XFi's game mode? (Bioshock, Stalker, BF2, Doom 3, Quake 4, OpenArena, etc).

I have Vista32 on q6600 and asus p5kc, xfi gamer.

i will pick up a game today i think, I have bioshock but damned if I am reinstalling that again.

I've been playing TF2 last night though and not had any issues but of course it's not OpenAL.

I will probably pick up Quake 4 on the way home from work.

Stay tuned!

It probably won't affect you then being on 32-bit Vista... going by all the people talking about the issue on the Creative forums, plus my own experience, it only seems to affect 64-bit users. Let us know all the same though :)

Well I can confirm I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It seems to be a problem with 4GB ram and Vista 64 bit.

Why are creative so completely unable to just make a working set of drivers? Sound cards are the only part of computers which continually get messed up by the developers.
