I have been doing a bit of reading up on both and not sure which i should get the X-fi Gamer or the X-fi Music soundcard. I have creative 5.1 speaker setup and 5.1 medusa headset with amp i listen to music and play games with both:rolleyes: which one do you think i should get?

THANKS!-

There is a hardcore site somewhere, they mod cards and they state the Gamer has cheap Daps/Caps and to buy the Extreme Music or Fatal1ty, Ive had both and no issues.

If they were the same cards they would not be a gamer or music lol.

The Extreme Music is one of original models the gamer is some cheapo later thrown out model.

The Extreme music is £10 cheaper than the gamer and the only difference between them is that the Extreme gamer is a smaller card i think.

I went for the Extreme music when i had to make this choice and saved £10 :)

I'd try and get the music, if nothing else for the gold plated connections.

which makes no difference

xtreme gamer doesnt have hardware DD/DTS decoding. it doesnt have the connector for the breakout box and doesnt have as many inputs and outputs. it's also low profile:)

General consensus is that the Music is the better card, it has all the features of the Gamer plus the extras for the music and films.

If it's for Vista, try and get one with XRAM on it (the fatality? / Elite Pro?) as the Gamer and Music both have serious issues in Vista, especially with 4Gb+ RAM

maybe even consider a non-XFI card.

It's not a thrown out model, that's the Xtreme Audio. I have the Gamer connected to a NAD amp with some quality cables and it sounds amazing in everything.

The gamer has the same XFI chip and same gaming performance. XRAM is a joke and it's been proven time and time again in compared reviews the difference in fps is only single digits in games that support XRAM such as the newer BF series.

The gamer is also a slimmer low profile card so if you need the airflow or have a htpc/sli setup then all the better.

It has the most standard connections too, optical out, line in, mic in, line out etc.

You pay extra for a breakout box anyway so because it lacks breakout connectivity does not mean it's a bad point because if you needed the box you'd be getting the platinum in the first place.

I paid £56 for the Gamer (retail) in January and never looked back. It's £1 cheaper now too. I'm on Vista too and have zero performance or stability issues.

Xram is not a joke, its just not used by many games, it works for midi, I have a benchmark tool that measures its use.

I feel my Fatal1ty sounds better than my Extreme Music.

Creative have too many cards now, it used to be Extreme Music, Plat and Fatal1ty, IMO the Gamer and others are a waste of time ever being made.

Its also a fact about the DAP's and CAP's being lower quality if you find that site you can read about it.

All (except xtreme audio) X-fi's below fatal1ty are the same regarding components and xfi cpu. The fatal1ty is the same but has x-ram, the elite pro is the only one with better dacs - This is the information I have gathered after browsing various audio forums as Creative fail to state any info regarding these anywhere but have listed the tech specs here:

The gamer and Music though share the same components. The only difference being connectivity and PCB size, also a minus for DDL or DTS hardware decoding - (DTS still fully available through software such as WinDVD though so not an issue on that front really).

And like I said, xram is a joke for gaming, if you need xram for Midi then you're not going to be getting a Gamer card anyway.

Which is the same with any soundcard on vista since it has a new sound system on it

I read on these forums the PCIE one was not that good, only comparable to an audigy ?
