Nope your fine, you can even run a 6970 with a 6950 in xfire if you wanted to, AMD is really flexible in regards to multiple video card setups.
It doesn't matter about the branding.
But, as Cleeecooo said, there's no point in mixing cards with different sizes of VRAM as you'll effectively be reduced to the lowest amount.
You can CrossFire within the same "family" of cards so HD 6950's, 70's and 90's can be CrossFired together.

Cool, thought you could. Just wanted to check. Wanted another 6950 iceq x-plus(cooler is fantastic) but found a iceq turbo £100 cheeper than what i paid for my x-plus! £133 does it sound too good to be true?????
