20th Century Fox has officially announced that Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn will helm the X-Men series prequel/reboot X-Men: First Class. When it was reported that they were fast-tracking this project into production, they weren’t kidding. The film is set to go into production this Summer, and the studio has set a June 3rd 2011 release date. The same weekend as DreamWork Animation’s Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom, a week after The Hangover 2, and two weeks before Green Lantern.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known.
(early plot synopsis)

Sounds like a good idea. I always wanted to see the early side of the relationship between the two archenemies as it got hinted to in the original cartoons and the films but never explored or explained properly.

I was hoping for a sequel to X3 where we see what happens post Xavier's death. I never did follow the comics so I haven't a clue.

It has potential to be good but I will wait and see. I wonder who the known mutants will be in this one.

So is this before Wolverine is 'created' then?

I thought the Origins movies were the reboot but now we are having another reboot?

I thought they'd do a few Origins movies to catch up with the original timeline of the first Xmen and then take it from there.

I don't think they know how old Wolverine is and was quite possibly older than Xavier (at least in the movie versions)
Although the Wolverine movie would suggest that Xavier was already in his wheelchair and had the school set-up by the time Wolverine was 'created' (metal claws).

He had bone claws before that though didn't he? So he could appear in that guise I suppose.

Could and probably will since he seems to be the most popular of the characters but then it conflicts with a few other things too like Xavier not knowing who Wolverine was in the 1st movie and Wolverine not knowing who Xavier was at the end of Wolverine

Am I imagining things then, I could have sworn it showed you Logan as a kid during the American Civil war days (or before) at the beginning of Wolverine.

It does but it doesn't show any sort of timeline between him and the other characters which will be in this movie.

Yes indeed but I was only talking about/answering the age question not if he had already met Prof X or what not before hand. ;)

Not sure about this one tbh

Wolverine isn't in it full stop FYI, his next film will be the sequel to the first Wolverine film and is due out 2011/2012

As for this one though personally I dont think the franchise needed rebooting, they could have made an awesome film off the back of Last Stand :(

They still intend to make X-Men 4, by the way.

Wolverine probably won't be in First Class. He's not in the comics anyway.

Not sure the world would want to see it any more to be honest, when you consider production on it probably wouldn't start till 2013 at the very earliest which would be 7 years after Last Stand chances of getting the original cast back together would be very slim and I'm not a fan of recasting roles
