good call on the SSD, you're gonna need it if you get all of those photographic add on packs!

The X52 looks like something out of tron tho :p

That is certainly the one to go for if you have the photo packs.

going for the full set should see you filling this drive given each volume quotes "45GB to 75GB per volume"

My experience with phot scenery addons is that they look fine from altitude, but it's when you get down low that unfortunately, the resolution lets you down and it turns blurry.

Shame there are no yokes or pedals as they would be more suitable for civilian simming too. Those are decent flightsticks though, especially the X52 Pro :)

Would you say they're worth it?

Rjk, I think my best mate TimMatrix from ocuk forum need a SSD exspecialy he love the experience of x plane 10 flight ! He still using old HDD 7200RPM. That's a cracking good deal of 240GB for the price of £139.99 SSD!

Thanks Bulldog147. I do own both FSX and X-Plane 10 on my other SATA HDD.

Yes, you are absolutely correct that SSD would benefit from it, due to fast read/write and 20 times faster than my HDD. I would consider buying a SSD on my shopping list, soon.....

It depends what sort of flying you do really. I would say they're decent for airline flying, but for GA, I would't recommend it. I haven't checked the resolution of these photo sceneries, but as a rule of thumb, the lower to the ground you get, the blurrier the textures.

Having said this, I have absolutely no experience with any of the X Plane series, so maybe it handles textures better than Flight Sim 2004/X

The guy who works at our suppliers who suggested the xplane series to me to stock is big into his sims, this pack is designed to remain realistic down to 500ft so even very low flight is extremely detailed.
There is a lot of detail in the airports for these titles too, much more so than the Microsoft sims that I have seen.

I will see if I can grab some images tomorrow.

Rjk- any chance at all you can get some 5760x1080 screenies at low altitudes, eg, coming in to land?

Im one of those people that prefer loads Of short hops to practice landings in bad weather, eg London city - heathrow - Gatwick :D

I don't want to break rules about competition here but there are videos on youtube of xplane low and fast over photo scenery using 6 screens. My understanding is the photo source is the same as the Generation X one and is the same 1.2m/pixel. The data must be compressed in different ways as the XP version occupies significantly more HD space, ~80GB vs ~220GB, and this does result in the textures looking a bit better lower down. XP can also keep up much better without textures going blurry as you hurtle along.

Scenery at many airports is sparse or non-existent. You do get scenery for Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted and Birmingham but these are places I rarely visit in FSX or XPlane as I tend to fly littel GA planes.

Going to rack up OCZ Vertex 3 in Raid0 getting both read and write speed of 1GB/s (waiting for my vertex 3 SSD to arrive today from ocuk) and will try out Microsoft Flight Simulator X Gold Edition as I heard that Microsoft is now disabled Activation online on FSX because Microsoft no longer support it.

Ditto, I'm also one of those people

I am not really a flight sim gamer so I tend to do that kind of thing when checking out a new sim.

I cant promise huge 5760x1080 screens but I will see what I can do.
