X: Superbox

Probably X3:TC. Far as I remember X2 doesn't have customisable controls and X3:TC is really just X3:R with improvements and a different single player.

Be prepared to kiss goodbye to your social life. It's one of those games which, if you get into it, you will sink an embarrasing amount of time trying to create your own battlefleet to patrol the pirate sectors manufactured entirely from the megacomplex built in your personal solar system :D

Terran Conflict. Go buy a few weeks worth of food, pop and smokes and make sure your chair is comfortable, because you'll be sitting in it for a while.

the superbox is £5 on gamersgate btw

EDIT: LOL at 3rd edit, this includes all the games and registers to steam with the serial number. Definately worth the £5 i just paid!

Yeah I got it from Gamersgate for £7.50 a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't believe they gave me a Steam key for the lot, considering GG and Steam are arch rivals!

just be aware the learning curve for X3TC is more of a brick wall than a curve, & once you have mastered it, it will consume huge chunks of your time without you even realising it...

I didn't think TC was that hard, but then again I'd played several runthroughs of X3:R. The thing I hated the most was the requirements for the Hub, they're insane.

Bought the X3 war pack few days ago on steam for £9.99  could have got the X3 games now for same price or saved £5 on the war pack bit of bummer but done alright in the sale on other games.

X3: Terran conflict is the one you will want to play. One thing to realise early on in this game is that setting up a trade network earlier rather than later will lead to a substantial income further down the line.

Also when you get to the marine space walking stage (trying to cap m6's and m7's), try not to rage out and kill your self.

Oh and the wiki will become your best friend. Get your laptop, open the wiki on it and sit it down next to you.

The Egosoft forums are a great place for help as well, there are guys there who have been playing it since the first game. They'll know all the tricks and tips and even the exploits if you want those!

There are a lot of them who play "Dead is dead", i.e. you die once and you have to start a completely new game. I've no idea how they put up with that.
