X³: The Reunion

:(

I think I'm going to wait until 1.3 is released before I play it.
Started, did a bit of the story, did a few trade runs (in an M4 it takes aaages to make any money) and now every time I dock at a solar plant - Crash to desktop.

Tried older savegames (1 hour ago etc) but nope - Just crashes every time.

Rebuilding tonight (New HDD!) so will try again... But Hmmm... Think I'll avoid getting sickened by the game andjust wait for v1.3.
(And X2 was soooo great too, even if quite hard on the ole GFX card...)

My UT is currently using a Mercury and has reached level 25 - is it possible to change his ship for a Dolphin? If so, how do I go about it?

I've flown to the shipyard in my Discoverer, my UT has arrived in the Merc and I've just bought a Dolphin. Have moved all the UT modules over from the Merc, but my UT is still listed as the Merc pilot.

Doesn't matter if it can't be done or if I've screwed up by moving the modules/software over - I can revert to a save game from before I bought the Dolphin.

The dolphin isn't as good due to its speed.

Does the dolphin already have a pilot? There is no swap pilot ablity. Also next time I believe you should no move any of the modules over, the move pilot will take care of that (well at least whas needed)

I started the humble merchant game so that i wouldnt be bothered with the story line. Im just slowely beginning to get to grips with the game. You start with 9.5K and i've reached just a little over 200K, mainly selling Space Fuel (you dont want to be scanned while carrying it). I've had a look around the closest sectors and i am having real trouble finding a trade route and decent goods to sell. The sector i have based myself in has a real shortage of enery crystals. Its going to be a while until i can build a solar factory and i cant find a supply of crystals nearby to trade. I think a bit more exploration is needed.

That's the thing, I can't find any way of moving the Merc pilot over to the Dolphin. I have posted the same question on the main X3 forum and somebody told me not to move the software over and that the Merc and Dolphin will have to be in space when I trigger the changeover - I've done this but I can't find any means of changing the pilot over to the new ship.

@melchy: Yeah, I started as merchant too - can't be doing with all that plot nonsense, I just wanted to get my teeth into the game. Have a look on the X3 forums - www.egosoft.com. They appear to be down at the moment unfortunately, but there's loads of threads on there from people asking for trading advice - I missed out on so many opportunities at the start of the game before the economy really gets into gear, I'm almost considering starting again. Look for posts by a guy with Respawn in his sig - his site has a very good trading guide on it.

lo im new to space games the only one ive played is freelancer which i liked quite a lot but never actually completed it.
From what i have been reading in this thread its very buggy so is it worth me buying on friday or just wait a couple months for some patches.
If i do buy it sometime i would get the Saitek Cyborg Evo Joystick is that any good or do i really need one to play this game.

How do you get pilot's for your ships?
They come with pilots...

Just the more MK3 trading a partucular pilot does, the better he becomes.
Therefore the better deals he makes, and more money he makes.

And bakes0310, I found that with Freelancer, once you had either of the 2 biggest ships (Titan or the other one) all kitted out with Nomad weapons... That was it... Nothing more to do.

Whereas X3 - You can keep going, and building, and growing, and conquering.
So a lot more in depth, although space looks more like space.
Freelancer was a pretty game with colourful backdrops.

Think they come when you install some software. The trade3 one is needed (and shields gun and other software) for automatic trading.

I started on xtreme difficulty, took a while to get going, but once I had a few captures, I upgraded to 3x 5Mw shields, enabling me to LUCKELY capture a Falcon. This I am flying atm, now I have better guns and 2x 25Mw shields I can take on all M5s-M3s, although Novas require some attention.

Several captured ships later I had 1.5mill creds spare, used a lot of this to purchase a mercury (haulier variant or something, too slow tbh), fitted it with all software inc. trade3 3x25Mw shields and a gun, sent it off auto sector trading while I carried on capturing ships. Once that was lvl 8+ I switched it to universe trader and purchased a normal mercury and set it up for sector trading, I imagine I will repeat this for some time.

I also stuck advanced satellites in all the pirate sectors and adjoining sectors, I use the jumpdrive to kill any pirates I find. Only issue is that I reckon I have nearly wiped them out as they hardly appear anymore, so I spend most my time exploring.

Still have the storyline to do, on mission 4 atm I believe, but not paying too much attention.

Loving the game!

Extreme difficulty u must be mad from what ive been reading on the x3 forum im going on easy. Thats if i do get the game and also is a joystick neccesay to play it very well.

You dont need a joystick, but its significantely easyier to navigate around the menus and to fly about with a joystick. The CyborgEvo is a good stick, i have one.

Do you have any problems with the calibration of your Cyborg Evo?

In windows?

Yeah - mine looks like it's been on the OI... the little lines in the deadzone bit are constantly juddering - I have downloaded a little program called DXTweak2.exe which is supposed to sort it - I will give it a try tonight and see! Just wondered if anyone else using the same stick gets the same problem?

Anyone been playing this on 'Normal'

-- Spoiler --
i've done the race and now i need the bugging equipment i need to talk to some guy, but i dont know where he is.

Found out its the captain of the big ship at the very start.

I wish someone would bring out a mod for X3 made like the Original ELITE but with updated graphics... that would be great. They would have to keep the original ships though - oh how I long to pilot a Cobra Mk III again!

yours,

Commander Jameson

I am struggling, how do i get the mk 3 trade software?
Ive installed everything into a large Paranid Demiter i hijacked last week, but there is no mk 3 software listed.
Is there a specific set of parameters to be met?
Certian types of weapon for the ship to be equiped with?
