Did a quick search and didn’t find anything so i was a bit surprised to not see a post on this.

The sun has pumped out an X1 solar flare facing earth which is one of the strongest flares it can produce. They're predicting some minor satellite interference including GPS and phone satellites.

Interestingly it has a high potential to supercharge the northern lights and there are predictions the northern lights could be seen as low as the 50th degree north latitude (as low as Cornwall)

So clocks go forward an hour this weekend then after the solar flare hammers everything including Big Ben? What about GMT? Feek won’t be too happy.

As usual when something interesting is going on it's cloudy and chucking it down here and forecast all weekend. I have lived in NE Scotland for 22 years and have never seen the Northern Lights despite all of the photo's from my area being shown on BBC breakfast many times over the years.

I got rain untill 2am then crystal clear skies
Im gonna set an alarm for this. Potential to be epic up here but just now the prognosis says it's nothing special atall.....

Weather is too crap in South Wales to see anything, also having not seen the Northern Lights will they be visible against urban light pollution?
Depends where you are.

Merthyr: you’ve got bigger problems
Port Talbot: the air is already thick with the pollution from the steel works
Swansea: no where clear enough

KP7 predicted now, but turning out to be a bit of an anti-climax. Still plenty time yet mind.
Keeping a very close eye on this using Spaceweatherlive, Aurora Borealis live webcam and Aurora live app. Just incase it does kick off.

Looks like its starting to fire up over Finland at the moment.

The average person won’t notice any ill effects from the solar flares, CMEs or anything else that the sun throws at us.

Tamitha has been quite excited about it though.

However with SSN over 90 and the SFI into three figures, the bands were in fantastic shape earlier today. I worked VR2 on 10m and then KL7 on 20m just a few minutes later. Of course, it helps that it’s CQ WW weekend so there’s lots of activity.

A index is currently at 25 so things could be interesting tomorrow.

That’s after my extra hour sleep :D

Night all.
