Hi all,

I have a slight issue i hope someone can help me with.

I have had my Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI- Express card for 6 months now, over the last 3-4 weeks it has developed some issues.

in game i get a lot of strange grpahical errors, hard to describe but its as if the graphics have been stretched into long thin lines, its like screen tearing and flickering polygons. It happens a lot.

Also lately i get a lot of random computer hanging in games.

I have tried various drivers but it still happens in most games.

The screen tearing is very regular. I have tried complete reinstall of windows xp. Updated my Motherboard drivers/bios. I have also tried to lower the speed the card runs at but still no luck.

Normal operation in windows is fine. I have checked the temp of the card and it is around 56c just in windows when running games it goes up to 68-70.

i have also checked the card (and computer) for build up of dust etc but everything is fine.

My computer spec is as follows:
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (happens on all bios versions i have tried)
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Running windows xp sp2.

I have talked to connect 3d and they suggest i get a replacement.

Before i start the long returns procedure id like to verify it is the graphics card causing these problems.

Does anyone have a good testing process for ATI cards?

If you need any more info let me know. and thanks in advance

Does sound like the card if your getting stretched polygons etc... could be the core, or its the memory, its one of the two, i always get those two mixed up, but if you've tried loads of different drivers and its still the same then id RMA it, or if you can try it in another machine first then id do that just to make doubly sure, but it does sound like the card as the temps are fine, when i had my x1800 it used to idle at about 55-56 and go up to about 74-75 underload which is perfectly fine for such powerfull cards.

Core is loads of really bright lines (Geometric though, not on textures) sort of appearing in games etc. Memory is textures going ridiculous colors and/or menu issues at times. I'd say tearing is most likely memory :(
