OK i have a very strange problem, when i play games or do anything on the desktop the pc runs fine but as soon as i play a game over the internet like Joint Operations Typhoon Rising the game cuts off after roughly 3 minutes and jumps back to desktop, only once has it forced a reboot, how the game crashes is like this first you get a stutter of sound then the screen goes blank finally terminating the game and then goes to desktop. When it jumps to desktop after terminating the game it also scrambles my internet connection but after i restart the machine all is ok again.

Any thoughts?

If you need any more info i will try to help as much as i can!

This is my first pc that i have have built myself and its annoying me that the first one hasnt gone totally to plan any help will be most appreciated :D

This is my first build and the first time i have ran this card. I dont think its the ram as i pulled it out of my old system and that ran like a dream with no problems at all but to make sure how or what program would i need to test the ram?

OK i installed the drivers and ati catalyst reinstall and tried the game again this time it ran for about 20mins before crashing and this time it done a system reboot.

The graphics seems to be running at a temp of 63c on the desktop.

I think it may be a problem of overheating as u mentioned or a conflict of drivers between either the card, game or aol drivers or all three.

Is there a program where i can turn the graphics cards fan to 100% to see if that makes a difference?

Thanks for the help!

it's happened to me before, possibly a firewall issue and possibly what ScottFree said, might also be your router blocking you... although you said you could play for 3 minutes which doesn't prove my point... when i try playing games online with my firewall blocking the game, the screen also usually blacks out and then returns to desktop, it's all fine when i allow the game through the firewall. you might have to adjust your firewall or set the ports for the game in your router control panel. I very much doubt its overheating...as the temp you given is normal

Yeah doesnt sound like a graphics card problem to me to be honest, the x1800xt idles at a high temp, the fan speed increases when the temps increase, it wont allow it to surpass around 85C on stock cooling.
If it crashes in game then the internet crashes, it sounds like an internet problem to me, try playing games without using the internet.

The router im using is a BT voyager 100 USB ADSL modem and yes it only happens when im online. Do you think i should turn off the the firewall to see if that makes a difference?
Oh and the games run fine when im offline, quite impressive really.

not sure if you have access to your router cp, but you will need your router to allow the game to play online, maybe opening the ports for that game - providing you know the ports .

Hmm.. sound router related.

The other day I was having a similar problem when playing Half Life 2 Deathmatch. Having read the troubleshooting guide relating to my problem, the issue was the firmware on my Router. I had to do a firmware update on my router in order to sort the problem out.

If you can possibly plug straight into the modem without using the router, you could test it to rule the router out

Try to gather more info into what caused the error. Go to the Join operation forums and see if others have experienced the same issue as you have.

Try here too

This site might enable you to troubleshoot the problem.

Oh and yes try turning off the firewall, both XP and your installed version!!

Have a look here

Open Explorer or Firefox whatever you use, and copy and paste in your IP.

You will then be able to access the router info, but use the link I gave you earlier to try to troubleshoot other avenues. Are you a member of a Joint ops forum. See if someone has had a similar problem.

Also try other online games like ET which is free.. download and install and see if you get the same problem!!

OK i think ive sorted my problem out. I disconnected the fans inside my case (three of them), except the fan on my CPU and graphics card obviously and it seems my problem has gone away as my system has not crashed once since no matter how long i play games for.
So if you are having similar trouble with your graphics card try turning all the extra fans off like i did and see if it has the same effect.

In this case perhaps your problems were due to insufficient power. But with that PSU I don't see how.
