Hi, I bought this card recently and have tried everything to overclock it, Used ATI Tool and rivatuner they dont work properly, frequences go back to 475/700, ATI Tray Tools doesnt support overclocking on these cards and ATI CCC only allows max overclock of 690/800 with no voltmodding capabilities.

I've tried using that overclocking tool thing and that didnt work, I dont know what todo argh! It's not that im being fussy to get a slight overclock, these can overclock a fair bit and would make the newest games faster at top settings, what have you guys done to overclock?

What is the stock volts for the pe bios? And what are PE frequences, its a bit scared to flash it to that but I can always flash it back if it goes pear shaped.

EDIT: Just searching for the x1800xtpe bios flash thread, cant find it anyone link me? And will any old x1800xtpe bios do or do I need the exact one for the sapphire x1800xtpe? (Sapphire being the make of my card).

I have the 256mb version, is it possible to flash this with the xtpe bios?

ATI CCC OVERDRIVE LIES!!!!

It claims to overclock the card to 690/800 but it totally doesnt.

I ran ATI CCC at 690/800 right, 3dmark 05 score of 9244.

Ati tool at 660/825 = 9373

Ati tool at 680/825 = 9598

As you can see ATI CCC is a load of crap, it barely overclocks the card just a blatent lie.
I've only got my cpu at 2.4ghz btw until I get another ram dimm to match one of mine so i can have the cpu at the desired 2.7ghz

It is, 690/800 is a decent overclock on the core and only give you an extra 300 on 3dmark05 is a load of ********, wack the core upto 1.4v on ati tool and try 680 on the core, much better frames.

Everyday game i'd be happy with 10-10.5K

I'm sure if I wacked my cpu upto 2.7 (at 2.4 atm), did windows tweaks, open side window etc etc I could reach 11K, but no point living on the edge aiming for 10.5K (will probably need a core of 750 or a little less? Will need 1.5V and and a vf900, prob wont reach it but will defiently get over 10K which i'm happy with.

Wont have a vf900 for ages and ages though, skint like.

Socket 939 Venice 3200@ 2.4ghz.

The CPU actually oes upto 2.7ghz, but i've got mixed ram, I need either a geil ultra 512mb dimm or a corsair xms c2pt to get my system running at 2.7ghz, i'll upload some results to see how the overclock is under 2.4ghz and 2.7ghz tonight, I have 2X256 dual channel modules but obviously these arent ideal for normal day usage as 512mb ram isnt enough.

I think you're right about the RAM, by the way. 3D Mark seems to be happier since I upped to 2GB from 1GB, so you should definitely see a boost. :)

LOL I wish, when I run 3dmark at 2.7ghz its with 512mb ram, when at 2.4ghz its 1 gig of ram, im tyring to get ahold of ram that will allow me todo 2.7ghz with 1gig of ram :(

I dont think ATI CCC is actually overclocking your gpu that much, try your highest overclock with ATI tool and test it against the ATI CCC and your highest ATI tool one, I reckon the ATI Tool one should work.

I finally worked out how to use ATI tool and the problems with it.

Use ATI Tool to overclock etc use profiles and save fan settings/volts to certain profiles.

When in 2d mode and you want to watch a video or something load the default profile as any other profile will just crash the computer, I think theres a dispute going on between the 2d and 3d clocks as I think ati tool overclocks both and 2d should be left well alone, as any change to 2d seems to make your pc crash under videos.

I've set ati tool to start when windows does and load the default setting - this allows me to use windows without crashing, once gaming I set my gaming profile up, this has higher clocks/fan speed and volts.
When coming back to windows I tap the predefined key for another profile of mine called stock, this is the same as default however on default it doesnt allow you to set fan speed/volts so if you go from a gaming profile to jsut default, the fan speed and volts will remain but the frequences will be default speeds.

The predefined keys I used are SHIFT then F6/F7/F8, this way I dont accidently tap one when in game and crahs my pc.

Well I have 1X512 Geil Ultra cas2 and 1X512 corsair xms c2pt, if I try going over 245fsb no matter what divider i'm on the screen doesnt come on.
So I took two ram modules from my little brothers pc, 2X256 geil ultra cas2 ram, I ran that and that allows me to goto any FSB my cpu is capabale of.
So basically I need either a geil ultra dimm or a corsair xms c2pt dimm so the ram is matching.

You didnt flash it correctly then, did it come up with an error message then say press something to continue? If so it didnt do anything.

Just a quick note on ATI Tool, although its great for setting clock speeds and volts the artifact scanning isnt 100% reliable, my pc crashes under that at high frequencies within seconds, but I can play anygame for hours on end and its fines so it still has issues with x1800 cards.
