X1800XT not starting up

Developments-I'm now getting corruption on screen, even in 2d, sat talking in irc. Looks like its the x1800xt.

As for WoW, I play at 1280x1024(19 inch lcd) everything maxed with 4x aa. The most demanding situations are Orgrimmar or Molten Core I'd say(I'm Horde), and its 50-60 fps mostly(vsync on) there. Occasionally i was seeing 40's.

Not bad, what about just walking around storm wind? I can't get above 10fps atm in there with the comp i'm on atm.

(Comp in sig is still in box's on bedroom floor :D )

I posted a thread like this last year when I got my XFX6800GT. It does exactly the same thing as yours is doing. Switch on the PC, you see the boot info, then the screen goes black and a 'no signal' box appears, then the desktop suddenly appears.

The wierd thing is a couple of weeks its fine, then for a few days it does it, then its fine. It also sometime displays a 'no signal' box when I'm loading games e.g. BF2 Nvidia intro, but then the menu pops up and the game works fine.

I've tried different drivers but it justs seems the same and random like usually.

I've got a Asrock mobo.

If its a power supply problem wouldn't it be affected more when a game is playing? e.g. BF2 has been fine for months and I play it on high settings.

My card has been fine for 10 months and I just accept its little idiosyncrasies.

i'm having this same problem, system will not boot yet the fans are all on full speed. Occaisionally when i boot it i manage to get it load up but after being in windows for around 10mins it freezes and forces me to get into a endless rebooting cycle :/

psu related problem perhaps??

Has anyone actually got a fully working X1800XT ??? I was planning on getting one of these some time soon, but now have some serious doubts.

Does this problem only affect the 256mb version? What about the 512mb card?

I think 95% of us got a fully working card, if not more :)

I've got the 512mb version, I get a garbled screen for a few seconds between login and actual desktop on bootup apart from that i've had no probs with it, it's also got a zalman cooler on it and idles at 41 degrees :)

The garbled screen at boot up was introduced with Cat 6.4 and is nothing to worry about, pretty much everyone running Cat 6.4 gets it. I'd be suprised if its not fixed in Cat 6.5.

^^ Yup, I think everybody experiences that. Speaking of cat 6.5, aren't them ought to be out soon??

The betas have been around for over a week, but they're not that polished, so ATI hopefully are working hard on getting a solid release out.

Ok, I hope the new drivers are good :D . I'm waiting for them so I can format my computer :p

I've got a x1800xt 256mb which also displays the garbled boot screen, though in games i've seen no problems, so i figured a garbled screen was something i could easily live with.

I'm going to run a few benchmarks now though after reading this thread, i really hope this card is not duffed or it'll be the first and last time i order.

Garbled on the way into windows? Or the in the POST screen?

The former is normal.

Just the bios logo screen, thats the only issue i can see....

Like i said, game wise this card has been rock solid since it arrived, but i'd feel more at ease if i actually ran a few tests.

If no problem occur on the tests i'll be happy, otherwise i'll post all the relevant information here so others can compare, pointless posting info on a working card though its not gonna help anyone.

I had a weird problem with my Connect3D X1800 XT when I first got it. Nothing came up on screen at all and the X1800 XT fan stayed at full speed.

What apparently fixed it for me was changing PSU. I went from an Enermax Noisetaker 475W (older model than the one on the OcUK Enermax page) to the Enermax EG465AX-VE 465W (the one at £35 on the OcUK Enermax page) which I had just bought for my brothers PC. The new 465W PSU had a 33A +12V rail whereas the old 475W PSU had two +12V rails of 15A and 16A. I'm not saying there's any significance in that though, it could have been something else like I didn't have the card seated properly. I don't really have an explanation for why it didn't work with the Noisetaker, but with the EG465AX-VE it's working 100% now.
