not used ATI before, so forgive me

what settings should i be tweaking for best performance on this card. Should i be using the catalyst control centre, or something else?

also, in that app, its reporting (in the overdrive section) GPU = 594 MEM = 693

the requested default overdrive settings are saying GPU= 621 and MEM = 747

is this correct as i thought it was 625 and 1500 stock?

or are those speeds due to desktop 2D settings, and it alters midgame?

any help appreciated

Everyone has different preferances.

I have mine as :-

Use Custom Settings = Ticked

AntiAliasing = 2x

Adaptive AA = Enabled (Ticked) and slider fully left.

Anisotropic Filtering = 16x plus HQ Ticked.

Cat AI = Enabled (Unticked) and slider fully right.

MipMap = Slider fully right.

V-Sync = Always on slider right.

In API Specific i have Triple Buffering ticked.

In Display options i have = Same as Desktop.

I use those settings for Oblivion.

Theres a good guide here that you can use to tweak it as well. :)

this is EXACTLY what i'm getting. the clock speeds seem to be lower than stock. something is wrong and ive tried 2 different psu ( both of which were bought from ocuk, the 2nd one " a tagan 530 w " was recommend by ocuk tech support )

i had an rma for a mobo and the sapphire x1800 xt . ocuk tech support said card was fine. but there's no way its fine as its not at stock speeds.

i used ATI TOOL and put both sliders up to what should be the stock level for the card. i ran the test and got corruption inside 30 seconds and system failure inside 40 seconds.

so will be speaking to ocuk first thing in the morning about this. might make a post about it as well as i'm not happy as its cost me £100 in labour charges with all the messing about ive had

Thats the 2D speeds as said, it clocks up when gaming, the card is fine. :)

if the settings are fine why cant i overclock then ? the " run automated clock " option hangs EVERYTIME .

i repeat " i cant overclock AT ALL " , and why is it showing speeds @ 50 mhz lower ?

how do i print a screen to show on here ? so i can show u want i mean

ok... if i run atitool 25 beta 10 . it lists the CORE @ 594 and MEMORY 693

IF i try to run them at 620 and 750 and run the test i get corruption = crashing inside 40 seconds.

Upload the image to your webspace, or imageshack or something, then click on the image link, which looks like an envelope ontop of a mountain, then put the link to your pic in the box that appears. :)

As said 594/693 is correct, thats the 2D speeds, it clocks up when gaming etc...

594/693 = correct, 2D speeds. :)

It will always list those speeds as it detects that its in a 2d application and sets the 2d clocks. When in a 3d application it goes to the 3d clocks (the ones marked requested in the CCC). There is not a fault with your card its the same with all x1*00 cards. Easiest way to test is open the CCC overdrive and leave it on your desktop then run 3dmark 0* when it's between tests you'll see a flash of your desktop and you'll notice that the clock speeds in the CCC will have cahnged to the requested 3d speeds.
Hope that helps.

so what the hells wrong with the ccc and overdrive section ? everytime i try running the automatic setting to find highest stable setting it always freezes :(

is the ccc really that pants ????

ive had a x800 pro previously and used the old control panel. didn't like the ccc at all. thought i'd give it a whirl with my new card and just seems to give problems :rolleyes:
