Hey all,

Wondering if anyone can help with a problem i'm having with my gfx card (X1900)

Firstly when playing games most of the times it will be ok, but then i get one part or area which stretches out from 1 point upwards like a big long triangle. Then more usually appear after a while.

LAtely the card has been locking the game up completely, then the screen goes blank like it is in power saving mode but can't get anything to respond, but you can still hear everything working in the background.

Tried using ATI Tray Tools overclocker settings (set to default standard) and using the renderer to check for artifacts, and even at stock speeds ad below i am getting some artifact problems.

Games used are all different types and all have the same problems.

Hope someone can help before it goes in the bin.

Ta,

Sounds like the core is overheating. Can you run a game for a few minutes and see what temp it is using AtiTool? Mine starts locking at about 82C. Set Atitool to keep the fan at 100% always (loud I know) that is the best stock cooling you have, if it stil crashes you've a problem.

It might just be dust in the fins of your heatsink, some canned air will clear that out.

Or the card is screwed.

THe temps were getting a bit high when i checked with ATI Tool, but nothing too bad i would have thought. Maxing at about 64 then crashing.

Tried reseating the HSF (it has an Accelero cooler on it). Usual process using grain of Arctic Silver. Cleaned out all the gunk from fans, etc too. Still crashing. Upped the fan to 100% manual in ATI Tool and it's much more stable now, idleing at 40 and not going much higher when playing games. Hasn't crashed on me since, but still getting the odd artifact in ATI Tool test.

Thanks a lot m8, at least i can play games again ;)

Might save up for a bit and get a new gfx card in a wee while.

Cheers,

Coln
