X1900XT first impressions

My first impressions:

The HIS cards look soo sexy in their box and out of it. Can't test them yet as some etailer can't get their ass in gear to deliver my Tagan PSU. Wish id gone with ocuk for this one, but i have to commend ocuk on *** speeedy delivery of the HIS x1900xt's.

But they are sooooo long compared to my x800xt.

I much prefer the CCC to the old CP, i think it looks a whole lot better, much more professional, and mine loads in about 2-3 seconds. :p
I agree; i didnt mind waiting 2-3 secs for it to load & never had any problems with it or the drivers.

Yeah I receieved my HIS X1900XT yesterday but can't assemble it all waiting on other parts  but JESUS CHRIST that thing is huge! I had a 9800 Pro and thought that was big but thing is like Godzilla on drugs! The copper heatsink and the pipes you see on this thing is insane. Some serious overclocking results I'm guessing...

The size is like a new born child. It really is!

X1900XT Size

That's the only downside with these cards. I wanted to add a physics card at a later date but there's just no way with my motherboard. I've got an Audigy 2ZX in the last PCi, but the others's are a no go area now.

Liked the remark about the baby, though. Got two kids myself. It ain't just the size you have to worry about - it's the expense!!

Tell me about it. Now I know what they mean about being able to buy a Ferrari!

Going back to the X1900XT itself I'm looking forward to giving it a workout with Ghost Recon - Advance Warfighter. It would only run at 1024 x 768 on my XFX 7800GS. The game needs 512meg video memory before it let's you run at high detail settings, which really dogged me off. Tonight it'll be 1280 x 1024 with everything maxed. I think this is probably the only game presently available which might make it wheeze a bit. We shall see.

Has anybody else managed to make it stutter at this resolution?

That's good to know. I think in due course I'll need to buy a widescreen monitor to complete the experience. 1024 x 1280 isn't much of a test for these cards, is it?

I have to disagree about the CCC comments, i personally think its fine and noticed no difference using omega.

I am however confined to CCC as i have dual monitors which i horizontally span, this you cannot do in the omega's.

Also i get the latest drivers with CCC a couple weeks early! :p

Just out of curiousity, what is the max resolution the x1900/x1950's can handle in Xfire and without, i heard they can only go up to 1600x1200, but is this true or utter bs! ? :)

I have an NEC WGX2x 20.1" widescreen and run everything in 1680 x 1050 with my card and it plays smooth and looks out of this world :D :D

so what is xfire then?Just out of interest

Well i personally still call the ati version xfire just from shorthand purposes - but some take shorthand on here to a whole new (unintelligable ) level hahahaha

personally I think 1680*1050 is about the limit for fluid movement in Oblivion with a single card but thats just my opinion

Xfire is a handy tool for finding servers for games you have installed, adding and finding friends who also use the app..

You can download updates to games you have installed...

I find it very handy
