x1900xt = nightmare?

Have you set the fan to max at 70 degrees? If so try using CCC to overclock your card (should go to 690 gpu and 800 memory), then try running 3d mark 05 again. BTW make sure you send ATItool to the taskbar to get your fan speeds to stick during the test. Also make sure that when you load ATItool, that you answer no to the ATI settings overide.

Let's see what happens...

You mentioned a red light turning on. Can you determine what LED it is? (you can see them labled, but you'll have get close up to see it).

My X1900XT idles at 50C but I've seen my it climb to 80C, but so far I've had zero issues with it and I'm just assuming its designed to reach those temps since many of the online reviews mention the same readings I'm getting.

My cpu is an opteron 148 2.2ghz.
2 x SATA HDD - 1 is a raptor 74gb 16mb cache 10k rpm. the other is a 300gb hdd.

My PSU is 480W XClio-SCF aPFC. Cost me around 50quid.

Any ideas now?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I got a 1900XT, and I'm sure it says "Recommend 500+ PSU"

not sure, maybe someone can comfirm :S

mine dont overheat, im on stock cooler too i use ati tool @ 50% Fan Control ;)

Thanks for your replies.

Im sure it said above 450+ for 1 x 1900xt.

I tried clocking my GFX card down a couple of hundred in ATI tool. This allowed me to play longer ingame but then performed an error.

I am going to buy a new power supply today a 650w akaska or something. Says its sli/crossfire ready.

Also, there are 2 other power connectors on the dfi lanparty ultra-d nf4 board, a IDE connector and an FDD connector. Do they need to be connected?

I noticed the computer functioned as normal when they werent connected.

EDIT: Also, when the games get the error, the graphics card nor cpu are overheating.

However, i am concerned that the chipset temperature idles at aroun 45 degrees and goes up to 49. Is this normal?

This might sound stupid, but I actually forgot to do it :P

Have you removed the extra blanking plate to let the x1900 fan push air out of the case? I didn't realise you had to remove it and my temps were really high :P

Im not hijacking your thread or that mate but it seems pointless to start another 1 :p . I have this psu : Thermaltake PurePower 560W Silent Power Supply and i was wundering if it will be good enough for the X1900XT

Yes :)

I shall try the memory test tonight. it just seems funny that its the second x1900xt that has failed on me in as many days :\

Will get the new psu and see how it goes.

EDIT: I think that the air cooler is clear, air is coming out of the fan at the back of the computer.

Will this power supply be ok ?

580W Tagan 2Force T580-U22 SLi U-Quiet 21db Also support 12v EPS/SATA/XEON 3 Years Warranty ATX/BTX

Thanks.

I suppose it depends on your case but I would have throught that the card would not fit properly if you didn't remove the blanking plate as the exhaust requires to stick out from the same side as your pci devices. So managing to fit your card with the plate on is amazing

OK. so ive got a new power supply, my computer has gone through 3dmark05 sucessfully at the lowered clock settings. Im upping the clock settings on the card now to see if it still works.

What should the max clock settings be for this card?

Thanks for your help guys :)

At stock 3D mode its 625/725.

I'd try using the card using the default dynamic fanspeeds and driver settings; the fact is, it should be working flawlessly like this. I'm all for tweaking, but it shouldn't be a necessity.

on 3dMark05 i got just under 10k without OC'ing my cpu.

That was at 500/600.

It seems that when i up the clock and core speeds and then try t open a game or 3dmark05 then the screen goes green and i need a restart.

make sure you connect the extra power connectors to the motherboard, they help with stability under load..

Does the fan speed controls on standard cat 5 drivers automated control or is it somewhere in CCC. Is atitools the only option?

My Specs:

2.2 148 opteron
2GB Gskill Ram
1 x Raptor 16mb cache
1 x Maxtor sata
Gigabyte x1900xt 512mb
Thermaltake case with around 6 fans correctly circulating.
480w XCLIO Meridian PSU
DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D

We have very similar specs. What chipset drivers are you using? The ones supplied with the board? New ones from the website?

What drivers are you using for the GFX card?

Cheers

Sorry for taking so long to come back - I am using Abit drivers from their website so wont be much use to you I am afraid.

Looks like you are all sorted anyway - so glad its working out

I have been having a few instant resets (no blue screen just reboots ), thinnk its possibly bad blocks on My Maxtor drives ( serious errors in Event viewer indicate this) so have changed to a seagate 250GB drive to see if its any better.

:) Cheers for everyone's replies.

Well...

Update:.... :\

OK, i got a new powersupply and reinstalled with the standard drivers which came with the card. Also i resetted bios and havent tampered with any settings .... yet.

I ran 3DMark05 and got 9.5k. I then started to play CS:S, it worked fine for around 2-3 hours, then all of a sudden the graphics became black and stretched spikey graphics accross the screen. Eventually the computer needed a restart.

So, now im about to start changing things, running ati tool if it runs ok and gets the settings up to what they should be at then i will look to updating the ATI drivers and see what happens.

Ill keep this thread updated as i break things and attempt to un-break them.
