im saving for a 8800gtx at the moment how much of an improvemnet will i see over my x1900xt 512mb i play at 1600x1050 and i play a lot of css and bf2 is it worth the extra money

and before you ask i have already got a half decent cpu etc

hope so because at the moment with say 20 players on a css server i am getting around 60-70 fps and when i was at 1280x1040 i used to get around 120

Probably none, its faster than the 8600's, and the next cards up are the GTS's, which are both a lot faster than the x1900 as well, the new 8800 GT may be a good match when it comes out in November, as thats supposed to be in the middle of the 8600-8800 GTS.

If it's for CSS then just get the GTS 640mb version. If you want a graphics card that is a lot faster for other titles then the GTX is the one for you. About £230 for the 640mb GTS and £300 for the GTX.

If you want to save as much as possible then the 2900Pro at £176 is a good bargain and I think it runs the 2 titles mentioned quite well (BF2 and CSS).

Edit: Forgot to finish off my sentence :o.

what sort of fps does every one with the 640mb version get? in css
i just hope i aint wasting my money getting 1 of these and not see an improvement

Just so you know, both BF2 and CSS are heavily cpu limited so even with the X1900, it would probably be the cpu limiting your fps.
The 8800GTX might not offer as much of an improvement as previously stated.

Yeah but looking at his cpu....If that isnt enough then that's pants...Glad i haven't upgraded from my x2 4400 if that's the case :p

Bearing in mind he's playing in like a wide screen view isn't he? Which is why the fps is harder to maintain now.

The GTX should be a massive improvement, Weird though cause my x1900 handless css fine as far as i can tell. Then again I'm running it at 1280x1024.

I have to ask, you say you get tearing in css...You dont have v-sync enabled do you? I'm presuming no? :)
