Just about to order a whle new setup for gaming and was wondering if its worth the £100 extra outlay on a X1900XTX as I will be only using 1280x1024 res as thats all my 19" TFT supports. Would a X1800XT not suffice on a crossfire mobo and I could slide in another card to boost later down the line, in a year for instance? Any advice would be appreciated ;)

First, I wouldn't really Crossfire for a 19". Crossfire only shows power at higher resolutions (>1600x1200) - so no point for Crossfire. If you can save £ on the Mobo with Crossfire or without, take the without option.

Second, correct me if I'm wrong but 1900series is better because of it's higher shaders, compared to a 1800series.

Third, if you're willing to overclock, 1900xt can easily overclock to 1900xtx with a flash or ATi-Tools, within mins.

Thx m8; think I know where I'm going now ;)

na...its worth it. Just means that you can run 4xAA and 16xAF at max settings in just about every game....its wonderful to be able to do that!

the resolution limit shouldn't put you off. There's a fair few games around that don't run silky smooth at 1280x1024 with everything maxed on an X1800.
On the other hand, Crossfire may not be fantastic at the moment but it's likely to get better in the future and I don't think the X1900 is that much better than an X1800 to justify the extra outlay.
I went with an X1800 and a crossfire mobo a short while ago on grounds of immediate cost/performance ratio and expandability when Crossfire sorts itself out properly.
