That said, the X1950XTX isn't much better than the X1900XTX, just a few frames faster.

yeah x1950 XTX is about 1-2 frames faster thats all, its just an x1900 with GDDR4 Ram instead of GDDR3 as on the x1900 and a different cooler.

If you needed a new vga card would you snap up the 1900xtx if it was £155 including delivery second hand? If so what questions would you ask the seller first just to avoid any future problems?
edit-i want to be able to connect the card to an LCD TV so what outputs on the card will i need?

As long as your tv can take DVI or VGA input you should be fine. If it only takes SCART/Component/HDMA then you'll need to work a bit harder, some cards will also output S-Video but again, this depends on if your TV would take an S-Video input.
Just so you know, TVs are usually quite low resolution, so the picture will never look as good as a high end screen.
At that price, its not bad, HOWEVER, you can get a 256MB X1950XT for around that price new, which is about the same speed. The difference would then be whether you're happy with the frame buffer that size and wont want to play Doom3 engine games with ultra settings and high res etc, or wanted to pay more for a faster card, or get the second hand card.

Np, none of us can tell you what to do, just give you all the info, so you can be happy you've made an informed decision at the end.

Just 'upgraded' from a X1900GT 256MB to a £160 X1900XT brand new card, and am happy with the results considering overall I'll spend £20 on the card after selling on the GT.
I definitly think that the additional frame buffer size is worth it, my own games make use of it - FEAR, Oblivion, Dark Messiah, Quake 4 ....
FEAR especially has performed a lot better - no more frame jumping when the card runs out of local video memory and the game needs to load new textures into memory for a part of the map I haven't been to yet.....
I seriously considered getting the 256MB X1950 XT, but thought to myself:
"I can overclock the X1900 XT, but I can't solder on another 256MB GDDR3 to the card "
