Right, Monday i am probably gonna be ordering a second x1950 pro from the lovely ocuk. However.. the one i brough a few weeks back didnt come with a crossfire bridge. so im suspecting the next one wont either. so my question is, should ocuk be shipping the cards with them? (ie so i can ring up and tell them to send me 2!) and if not where abouts can i locate them ?

x1950pro only came on the market last nov so even though its mid range it is as cutting edge as these other expensive cards.

It doesnt actually need any extra connection, its all done through pci and the drivers. Its the first (only?) ati card to do so

ocuk should be able to confirm as much if you ask when buying

Anyone else confirm that? if so thats fantastic :)

*edit*

also another silly question. what port/card do i plug the monitor into when i get it ? i would guess it'd be the second card like it has been tradionally ? obviously can find out the hardway but just curious incase it will come up with a signal on both cards but will only work as crossfire if its plugged into a certain one or something stupid like that!

Actually I may have read that wrong, its internal rather external so it still has a connector apparently

In order for the software based CrossFire to work, you need any combination of two CrossFire Ready video cards from either the X1900 family or the X1950 family. The exception to this rule is the X1950 Pro, which uses its own form of interconnect and cannot be used in this method of CrossFire. Also, you have to have a motherboard that is capable of a CrossFire graphics setup. While not all inclusive, many motherboards using the Intel 965/975 series chipsets and the ATI chipsets fall into this category.

Sorry to Hijack thread but can I get this straight, If I can pick up another X1900XT or even an X1950XT I can now run crossfire without needing a mastercard?

Maybe the second card you buy will ship with two bridges. Im surprised if x1950pro need an improved bridge, the reviews seem to say its future proofing for gtx level performance cards and triple crossfire, etc

Thing is the first one didn't and by the sounds of it each card ships with one. Oh well - not too important. I've decided to buy 4gb of ram first anyway.. so I'll worry about it in a week or two :)

Hell - with the upgrade to C2D and 4gb of ram i might decide i dont need the performance increase of crossfire anyway!

they'll both run fine in software crossfire :)

Just its a waste of time, as you get quite a hit on performance when not doing it the normal way with a master card.

I wouldn't bother going x1950pro crossfire now, 8800 GT is out tomorrow, so id just get one of them seen as they are gona be anything from £140 up to about £180 for the pre-overclocked ones. :D

It dosent matter anymore,

the lovely technical crew at ocuk helped me out, nice guy shipped me out 2 bridges and its not like at the time i was even ordering anything! this is why i shop at ocuk! :) - probably gonna order the card monday :)

Nice one, x1950pro crossfire is faster than a single GTS by all accounts, so your still getting decent performance. :)
