x1950 pro getting silly temps...

Hi there, this isnt a recent problem but its only now that ive reached the end of my tether with it. I'm sure the card wasnt like this when i bought it (i.e. had at least 8 months where its been fine) now however when playing a game, like hl2 episode 2 my graphics card proceeds to hit temperatures of up to 125 degrees, after that temperature it will shutdown.

Now, i am running two monitors, does this make much of a difference. My usual desktop temperature is really high at around 60-70 degrees, with either one or two monitors plugged in.

Its hitting these high temperatures with all setting low, and res @ 1260 x 1024 on hl2 episode 2. now surely that cant be right, i mean this card should be able to play this game with ease. however if i want to play at all i have to give the card a break every 10 minutes or so to cool off. its driving me nuts.

Is there any solution to this problem, being a student, replacing it isnt really an option. any help is much appriciated thought. thanks. tom.

check the cooler for dust its surprising how much can get on the heat sink between the fan and check the fans spinning

can tell the fan is spinning cos is well noisy, but will check it out for dust later on. gonna try a driver reinstall in the mean time.

the first thing i'd do is whip it out and inspect it. re-installing drivers isn't going to help much.....

The air flow in the case you have is probably not to good, probably getting too hot. Take the side off and see if it helps.

After looking at my temps with ATiTool mid-game my card usually maxes out at 85ish.

If the cooler isnt blocked with dust then i would look at getting another cooler, either the Accelero or the Thermalright.

Then when you've made sure thats fine, whip yer gfx card out and inspect that.

I'm wondering whether something must have triggered it for both of us, been playing lots of TF2 by any chance?

hi there, super happy now, i opened the cooler on thetop and there was a massive load of dust collected in the pipes and the fan. i removed all of it and its now idling at 42 degrees now to play some games,
