Lo all
I got one of the OcUK (Jetway) x1950pro 256mb cards. Having dumped the hideously loud cooler and let it run for a while I want to overclock it. Now, having tried with ATiTool, RivaTuner and ATI tray tools I cant get the sodding thing to overclock. Well, I managed to set the core to 600mhz but thats as far as any application will let me save, memory wont move from stock. Is this common? are the cards locked? any ideas?

ivread this a lot that the memory will not budge on x1950pro cards but the core will usually clock up but is limited in CCC.

have you tried to use tray tools or atitool?

dang thats odd. ill check when i get my card to see if it overclocks using CCC. i think there may be a way to fool the vendor ID or something so that CCC unlocks for you.

What cooler did you put on it instead?

You cant overclock this card without hard mods afaik. It was only released last year to compete purely as a cheap relatively high performance card:confused:

Not that its relevant, but its on water and I added ramsinks. Guess I will need to find some hard mods (for £70 I won't cry if it breaks :D). I knew it would be an issue as soon as I realised there was no hardware monitor/fan speed controller on it.
Still a hell of a card for £70, maybe I will just Xfire instead.......

Hav u tried unlocking the card in "the catalyst control centre" then using ati-tray tools? As i believe the lock in catalyst control centre over rides all overclocking options until that fail safe has been disengaged.
Most likely the reason for this is that if u overclock and ** card breaks u can still use the warranty because u break the warranty if u unlock the card this way, it makes sense if u think about it.

When you load tray tools it prompts you to disable the ati poll service or something.

Tray tools will overclock the card ok if it can, I got about 10% (whoopie :p) I put my 3dmark06 score in the benchmark thread.

xtremesystems list some mods for this card that are from another forum - in russian.
Just had a quick google and apparently vrzone have clocked this card:
http://sg.vr-zone.com/articles/PowerColor_X1950PRO_256MB_With_Arctic_Cooling/4190-7.html

They seem to put up a warning though
**The X1950PRO did not manage to sustain voltages over 1.3V for our sample because the GPU VRM was not designed to take the extra current. Temperatures easily exceeded 120 Celsius. As much as the GPU was willing, the VRM would not cooperate. I would say that Voltage Mods on any Reference X1950 Pro designs are not advisable at all, whether on PowerColor's or any others.**

i have the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 and i can use overdrive i think i had the core up to 614 and the ram up to 770 somethink like that any way only problum i have is the cooler isnt that good so it get hot on stock and reallyyyy hot if overclocked :(

It is annoying, the card appears to be good up to about 630mhz on the core but I cannot get that clock rate to apply to test it properly (auto oc in ATT and ATiT both make close to 650 before dumping). There really is no Overdrive in CCC, will need to find out if there is a way of enabling it, but afaik overdrive requires hardware monitoring, which this card doesnt have, to work properly. So I dont fancy my chances.

My Jetway X1950 Pro arrived this morning and to my surprise it actually has Samsung memory chips. I've looked them up on the Samsung site and they're actually rated at 700MHz (over the card's 600MHz).

I'm just epoxy-ing some ramsinks on but should be able to get a few extra MHz out of the memory. Even better value if that's the case!

LMK how you get on, and if you get anywhere, lmk how!

my HIS x1950pro just arrived 30 mins ago, its replaced the 7600gs AGP card now. just downloading the drivers now and will see how things turn out.

right this makes no sense, bioshock demo with all settings maxed out runs faster on the x1950pro then on my x1900xt?

only difference is x1950pro has 512mb ram and is on xp, my x1900xt has 256mb ram and is on vista 64bit? this is shocking!!!

More Ram would help yea
