Just installed this card ( the OCUK brand one ) in my new rig and its performing perfectly, apart from one small problem. The fan seems to be running 100% flat out all the time, even when just idling at the desktop. I'm new to the ATI drivers ( always been an Nvidia man ), and I've had a poke about for a setting but can't find anything. Anyone help or is it an aftermarket jobbie?

Cheers

i think it can be be car ddependent as in the ocuk card may not have a sensor for adjusting the fan. i know mine changes on its own. im sure i read someone else posting about this or maybe its late and my imagination is playing up lol.

i take it you can hear the fan a lot and its bugiiing ya ?

Yeah I'm getting the impression from reading around that some 1950's don't have any sensors or fan adjustments.

Yeah the fan sounds like a vacuum cleaner, rest of the system appears to be very quiet at idle just this fan. It may drive me to buy another card at this rate!

Please let us know how it goes if you do, I've been putting off getting the S1 since reading about it. (We may as well have forked out for a known brand in the first place, must grumble)

I've got a temperature monitoring thingy that sits in a 5.25 bay. I must get around to "nailing" one of the sensors to the graphics card so I can see a before & after S1. I'm concerned about running it passive having no built in temperature monitoring & so will probably get the optional fans for peace of mind & decide to fit them or not depending on the readings.

I have the same card, it actually runs nice and cool, doesnt take very much power and doesnt need the fan to be at 100%

Its a budget card so no temp sensor and no fan control. If you buy this card, get a zalman fanmate with it for 3 quid and set the fan on this to 50%

Sorry to hijack this thread but would upgrading to one of these cards be a decent improvement over my X800 GTO2 (@ X850XTflashed level)? I'm looking to upgrade but not if it costs much for not much improvement :)

Yes I think so and this chart seems to back that up. Not double though..

I wouldnt say no way

Lots of fan controllers have temp sensors you can place anywhere you like to read a temp.
You could just slip one next to the gpu

Or you can get infra red temp sensors, just place the beam anywhere you like to read a temp

Looks smart anyway, will you overclock

Heck, that looks huge ! Is it heavy & if it is, is it secured to the card well ? I'm wondering about the stresses the load is putting on a warmed & therefore softened card & or the motherboard socket.

Yeah its really very light. I was quite suprised when it dropped through my letterbox.
Really wanted to hang a 120mm fan from it but kinda run out of room.
