i dont no what optys are like , they are supposed to be good quality chips as they are made for servers not normal desktops but its ure cool , they are both gonna be better than a 3200

They are indeed a decent buy but if he's not going to overclock, I'd just go for one of the normal x2s, as an Opty 170-185 will probably cost a fair bit more.

I agree. An X2 overclocked, 8800/R600, 2gb of DDR and a big ass resolution for the win. Obviously the Conroe is faster but for gamers with big resolutions then X2 is enough imo. Or does Conroe run MP3's faster ? .

I hardly ever encode or decode so it's not a big issue with me. I'm mainly a gamer but also use my PC for music (Hook up Midi Keyboard). Saying that I will wait for AMD's new line-up before moving over as FX62 speeds should suffice till then .
