x2 4200 -> Opty 170+

Mine was an earlyish 170, a CCBWE 0550UPMW from the 408L batch

Im so sad I still have pics of it  was a great chip though!

Stock voltage and still made 2.8ghz on stock cooler :)

It would run dual prime stable all day long at 3ghz with just over 1.4vcore, but only on better cooling (water)

I still have pics of mine somewhere, they were the best of the day, had loads of fun with mine, paid £350 for it I wanted it so badly but it's been a great CPU and still in use in my spare rig runnig great.

The good old days.:D

Its a little more complicated than that, but in general late dated CCB1E and CCBBE would overclock better than the CCBWE but quite a few 0550 dated CCBWE's could hit 3ghz.

I think its a general rule as the optys came close to EOL they ended up with the best silicon cuts, so pretty much any of the last opteron overclocked very well.

heck my buddy had one of the last stepping Athlon 3700+ and he managed 3.2ghz on air!! which was basically a Toledo model with the second core locked, same ones used by the late 170's

This is a list of quite a few 170 steppings that could hit 3ghz:

CCB1E 0550VPMW
CCBWE 0550UPMW
CCBWE 0602BPMW
CCB1E 0605XPMW
CCB1E 0606VPMW
CCB1E 0608MPMW
CCB1E 0609FPAW
CCB1E 0609FPMW
CCBBE 0610DPMW
CCBBE 0615EPMW
CCBBE 0617FPMW

the LCB9E and LCBWE(?) both tend to be good cores also, although they both started with a dirty repulation among the <3 opty = the best only opty <3 crowd because it was a "x2 stepping". turns out some of the best chips have come from these steppings.

if you followed the Nuclearus threads, here on ocuk i hold top amd X2 spot with one @ 3180mhz (fully stable at 3100), i was also top for a while at XS forums...

I see you've been posting in the old Opteron thread #2 over on XS ;) I want me one of the 07xx steppings, I'm sure someone said they had one that did 3.1GHz @ 1.4v on air!
