X2 4400 or FX 57?

It depends really on what you want out of the upgrade?, if it's gaming performance i wouldn't bother atm...

I recently upgraded from a 3800+ to an FX57 (great deal £270), i've got a really fast system now, but gaming performance hasn't changed at all really (i think my vid card is doing all the work tbh, yours is similar )

I agree that the 4400 will be good for the future, but don't be surprised if you're initially dissapointed with your purchase, especially until more new games use the dual core technology .

dual core will prob be better for vista, but it's not released until next year some time, and by then you'll probably also be itching for a DirectX 10 vid card to take full advantage of the new games... That's pc's for ya :D

4400+ all the way. Take the money you save and put it toward watercooling and clock the dickens out of it.

Single core CPUs are on their way out. I wouldn't throw that kind of money at a single core CPU anymore.

I totally agree, but the reality is it's far too soon for dual core cpu's to really make an impact in the vast majority of games... From my recent upgrade experience i'd advise to hang on, cos if you do upgrade now from the 3500+ you will see minimal if any performance increase in current games (dual core or single)

Wait until Conroe is out, then AMD will be doing huge price-cuts. AthlonX2 3800+ is rumoured to drop to as low as £99, just as an example of how aggressive they're going to get in the upcoming price wars.
