x2 6000

come on guys in underclocking and want to be overclocking, ive done some reading and it seems all i need to do is update the bios but having said that i bont have a floppy drive or disks, please help

well after much messing around i changed my cooler for a freezer 64 pro so now its all running at default in the bios (voltage, speed) so its at 3.1 ghz and its running at 62c under load, its still to hot, so no overclocking till i buy a quad later this year. lol

I shouldn't worry its not a great clocker anyway. Mine was able to reach 3.3 before coming unstable.

Edit: I sold mine for £48 and bought a 7750 for £40

You will be fine upto around 65C. The high end Althlons were pretty poor clockers anyway. My 6000X2 ran hot (125W) and needed 1.5+ to even get 3.4Ghz stable, not worth bothering with really. I have it at 3.2Ghz 1.425v and it loads at 55C on my Freezer 64 pro at lowest speed.

well ive just tried over clocking it without changing anything but the bus speed and hit 3.3ghz no probs but its still hot

im now ar my wits end with this chip ive done everything i can think od with and im still no better off with it, i spent the evening lapping the cpu and the heatsink and it stil gets far to hot, ive got my shutdown temp set at 64c and after lapping it i set prime95 to go and within 5 mins it shutdown.
anyone got any other ideas?

I don't know why you've got such a high temp here... I used to have a 6000+, using the same cooler i have now, a freezer pro 64.

It used to idle at 24-30, and never went above 45-50 under load.

Agree with the others about it not being a very good overclocker. I used to mess with 'FSB' and lower the multiplier to get it to 3.2GHz, and had my GeIL PC2-6400 Ultra running at 880Mhz at 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v.

It's also strange that you can't lower the voltage.... There's a commonly known problem with the M3A78 Pro that doesn't let you increase the voltage, but i've never heard about not being able to lower it.

Is it a recently bought chip/motherboard? It may be that one or the other is faulty?
