X2 Price Drops?

Front page of the shop says price cuts are in effect but those prices look stupid to me compared to what has been confirmed by AMD. Is this the price cut or just a stop-gap price cut until the real one?

Hi there

The Athlon 4000's are now £89 +VAT at OcUK. :)

OcUK does have far lower prices on X2's than the competition and prices will drop further at the end of the month on both socket 939 and AM2.

Me too, I just hope it isn't all hype and does happen
It's been confirmed by AMD and DailyTech, so I will be majorly miffed if that is the case and AMD might end up having to rebuild a fab. or two. ;)

X2 is what am holding out for. I have 3GB of DDR sitting ready to pop in, so they better drop soon :)

i want quad core now dam it :P

so if Core Duo 2 is out for the 14th July, i would say after the 1st week of them been out, AMD will get a look at its performance and sales and then price the chips to reflect that.

just me running of thinking again. Way to high to be up this late with work at 6am :(

My main concern is stock level. I'm on S939 and I've no intention of buying a new motherboard, memory and CPU. I have this unpleasant vision of major price cuts occuring when I'm at work and all the S939 X2 stock being sold by the time I get home.

Don't worry, I doubt every retailer in the UK is going to run out of cut price X2's whilst your at work fella.

Doubt they'll last long, but we should be ok for a few days.

So what date are we looking at here? july/august?

*special request* Can someone who knows this date and spends a lot of time on here be so kind to add me to msn (in trust) so i can up to speed when the price drop hits, i have waited nearly 2 years for an AMD system, the time has come and i would not like to miss this :p !

Edit = someone mentioned 14th july and somebody else said 28-9th july.. im confused!

The 14th is, according to a very unreliable source, the ending of the NDA. At that point, reviewers can build their own Core 2 systems, run their own benchmarks and report the results as they please. It's been a very slack NDA though, if there has been one at all, so I doubt if it will make much difference. The site may even have been typo'ing for the 24th.

The 24th was the original launch date.

The 27th, 28th, 29th are currently rumoured launch dates. No-one is saying why the launch date would be moved back just a few days.

I got the amd 3800+ X2 and i have tried overclocking it and its very good. From what i heard also it can be overclocked to very high speeds but my CPU is not strugling so i see no need to OC it yet
