X3 - help a new noob please

OK, installed the game, got the 183mb patch installed that too.

Started on the 'no story line' game as i have never played the game before either in X1 or X2. Love the graphics, just about worked out how to dock with things and use the trade windows...

But for the love of god, i dont seem able to make any money at all or do anything of interest.

If you had to start again, where would you head for and do for say the 1st hour of the game, just to get me going along a bit?

will if its your fist ever X game then you would be better off starting with the plot on you dont have to follow the plot but it does give you easy ways to get money and equipment.

Best way to make money quickly is to capture other ships and sell them.

There are also a lot of freebies around the galaxy (ships/weapons/money) for instance goto "Loo Mancksrat's Legacy" and pick up the free split mamba great ship for caping.
 
I was in your position about a month ago. What I've done so far is sell the buster and used it to buy a small freighter (TP class - passenger transport) did a bit of manual trading until I had enough for a bigger freighter, then traded some more until I could afford Trade Command Software MK3 and started the small freighter on a sector trader to make me some money, and eventually did the same with the larger freighter, whilst I bought an M5 ship (small but fast) and used it fight some pirates and do a bit of pirating of my own (only against paranid though, want to keep the other races friendly) making a fair bit of cash off of all this, and got in a couple of stations too. So basically once you've got a bit of money to start with it gets easier. Things like Sector or universe traders and factories can make you money without you having to do much, then you're free to do the more fun things!
 
cheers, But when you 1st start where can i go to make money - do i need to use the gates to get about more as nothing in the starting area seems to make a profit...

Dam this game is HUGE! but loveable...

if you are still in your starting system and think the game is huge then you will get a shock as you map the universe....

yes use the jump gates, explore explore explore, and dont forget to check the bulletin board when in stations, some of the missions can net you a lot of money and the amount you get will increase as your ranks increase. XI and bounty missions are fun.

i just started a new xtended mod game, im a couple of hours in and already have over 10million credits.

nope only caped about 6-7 ships,

made my first million from a xi mission, alowing me to create a system traider.
Ive since then made about 9 million from selling dragon scales(XTM only).

im in explore and race rep building mode atm and saving up for a nice m7.
 
Is it still just as hard to build race rep as in the Vanilla game? I remember this doing my head in originally.

Where are you buying dragon scales from and selling them to?

yes just as hard to gain race rep.

you dont buy dragon scales you get them by killing dragons, at any one time there are 2 some where in the universe. You cant even just sell them you must load them into a ship and sell the ship.
 
Well, will give it another go, not sure what these terms are you lot or banding about, but makes me want to know more about the game so thats not a bad thing :)
