X³: The Reunion

Finally got the rank to fly the Argon and Tel,adi M3/M6. Just gotta decide which i want more in terms of M6.

I want the Teladi one more cause it looks so god damn cool, but it costs 15 million credits for just the ship alone, but it can fit 4x 125mj shields. But the argon Centaur is only 9 million credits to buy, goes faster but can only fit 3x 125mj shields. Think i'll get a centaur first as my first M6 then i can buy a couple of M3's and some M4's for protection support when roaming pirate sectors. :D

Need more money fast so i spent 5 of my 7 million credits to fire up 5 more UT's, well, i'll start them as sector traders today and move em up to UT's. Thats 10 in total. Also uncovered paranid space beneath argon space so i can set the ST's going in Empires Edge one at a time until they are ready for UT.

Lost my first ship as well. A vulture hauler belonging to one of my stations went pop :( I cant believe how much money my Flower Farm M in Greater Profit is making. The Wheat Farm is making nice isk but the other 3 are struggling to make a profit. :(

Save before you buy your M6 so you can test drive it. I found the M6s really disappointing when I tried one, moving from my Mamba Raider. I think they all handle like pigs, and can't dodge weapons fire enough to cover the increase in shield and weapons power. YMMV ;)

The M7 is nippier than most M6s, I think. I might still try the Dragon again though.

Yeah i find the M6s a little too sluggish for personal flying!

But add a couple of M3 + M4s and you've got a nice patrol squad!

Currently got mine looking after my interests in Presidents End. :D

How much are M2's? And what're their names?? Infact, does anyone have some sort of written guide on the names of ships and what they are? Can't find one on official forum.

I officially hate UT's even more now. Had 10, now 9.

One had the bright idea to fly into Bala Gi's Joy, got jumped by about a dozen Pirate Busters, but instead of deploying drones and jumping out with a jumpdrive, decided to dock instead. Forced to undock when they blew the station and got his *** handed to him. ARGHHH! The others get into that annoying habit of trading in a few units of a commodity over and over and making no money. Making me manually move them around and restart them as UT's.

Currently at about 11 million credits so i can afford a Centaur, but not buying it yet cause i need more creds so my UT's can still trade and buy stuff for the M6. I watched one in Argon Prime that had 4 M4's as support, shred an M3 Pirate Nova in about 5 seconds. *drools* But as soon as i can afford a second M6 i'll certainly be getting an Osprey. My Teladi standing is going up like a rocket, already 20% of the way to the next rank :)

As soon as i have a fully setup ready to go Centaur im gonna go station crazy, maybe try and setup a small complex in a hub system somewhere. :)

EDIT

Brought myself a Centuar. Gave it a quick setup. Although it would probably do with some adjustments :P

Main guns are 4x AHEPT and 4x BHEPT
Left, Right and Rear turrets are BHEPT's

Saved my game and went for a strole through elenas fortune, up to bala gi's joy olmanacks treaty. Cleared the lot out :) A group of 6 Pirate Harriers (M5) were very brave and attacked me. i just sat there and let my 3 turrets splat them all over the cosmos :P Things got a little hairy when i took on 2 M4's and 2 M3's together before i started getting used to the slow strafing. Those BHEPT's on the front sure pack a punch when they connect. The turrets are capable of reducing a full health M3 to space dust in about 15 seconds at close range :)

I did encounter the downside to auto firing turrets. Tried to clear out some pirates, but accidentally hit a boron station in Bala Gi's Joy. Lost 3 ranks with boron almost immediately. Oh well, still friendly to me and repairable.

Saving up for that squad of 5x M4 Busters now for wingman support.

Don't get too excited about M6s as they are fairly useless. If you fly it yourself they will feel very sluggish after M3s except perhaps for the Dragon. Get the M7 instead which is a far superior ship. My Dragon hasn't been used in months and my Centaur only gets used for dragging mines about with the tractor beam.

They are not bad as a missile boat, I have cleared a Xenon sector with a Dragon and hundreds of missiles before but forget dogfighting like you are used to.

For OOS defence patrols you really want to use Elephants and even they will occaisionally struggle with a Xenon P Patrol since the LX was introduced. I lost an Elephant this morning to a P patrol :( . They might be OK for patrols away from Xenon areas but I suspect a few Pirate Novas would probably kill an M6 sometimes.

I agree with the weakness area. The first setup i tried was a little underpowered, 2 M3's and 2 M4's took it to 50% hull before i killed em off, but that was due to using cheap tacky weapons.

I was surprised how much incoming fire you can actually dodge in the Centaur by strafing the second time i took on the same group i took much less damage while the turrets wre still managing to hit the targets. The main guns are good for the initial attack when you pick the biggest or most dangerous ship and cripple it while the turrets mop up the smaller targets. I'm more of a pacifist tbh and i actually hate high speed combat like with the M3's cause im rubbish at aiming etc.. I certainly wouldn't take it against a huge pirate blob. But its good enough for me to satisfy the killing spree feeling from time to time :)

I want the Teladi M1/M2 badly now :) 30+ turrets, over 20 of them being automated 7GJ/10GJ shields....lovely :)

I took out my first Khaak M2 today with my M7. I'd killed one before using the sneaky Elephant rear turret B-PPC and retreat tactic, but this was much more fun... :D Toodled off to Xenon 101 to take out a few destroyers with the remaining shield before retiring to let it recharge.

I'm getting fed up with setting up stations with trading ships. My complexes are hideous, but I find them much a more sensible prospect than using masses of TSs to grab energy cells etc. Running nearly 20 UTs too, but some of my complexes are barely breaking even. How do they end up making a loss? Is it because the transport arrives at the point of sale after someone else has sold it stuff, then they sell anyway?

My biggest money spinners are light weapons complexs and plenty of space weed and space fuels. I found that your complex really needs to have its own silicon mine and SPP before it rakes in a lot of cash. Having to buy power or other resources is no where near as good as self sufficiency.

I don't use a single buying or selling transport ship in any of mine and rely solely on NPC traders to buy and sell my goods. I allow everyone to buy and sell resources and play around with the prices a little to make sure they are trading the right goods, it seems to work although there may be better ways of doing it.

I'll give that a try then with my next few stations, thanks :)

One other thing - I stupidly set one of my UTs a home station, and want to clear it (so I can use the filter that hides ships with a home station, removing the ships that are already working for my stations), but I can't figure out how. If I can't do it any other way, I'm thinking of buying a cheap station, deploying it, setting the ship's home there, then self destructing the station. Is there a better way?

Just got this game, just bout getting used to it, im up to the third mission where u have to chase the Talon. Though i still have my ****** little Buster which keeps getting destroyed. Is there any quick way to get a new ship or some money to buy a new one :D

@ Mr Flibble, I think there may be a command in the latest Bala Gi missions that will allow you to reset the homebase. You can also fly it yourself which will reset it but you will lose the pilot I think.

@ Jongo, Its up to you if you do the missions but I only ever did the first couple to get the freebie jumpdrive. I still haven't bothered finishing them as they are the weakest part of the game. The Bala Gi missions are quite good though and will get you the M7 and a Headquarters but you won't be able to do them for a while as you will need race reputation, cash and some decent ships and weapons.

There are 10 abandoned space ships dotted about the universe which you can claim (the Egosoft forums have a list somewhere if you search for "free ships" you should find it). The best of the lot is a Mamba Raider in Loomanckstraats Legacy but its surrounded by squash mines so you have to approach it from a few kms directly below it in your spacesuit. It can be quite tricky to get and may need a few tries. There is also a Nova in the unknown sector south of the unknown sector thats west of Maelstrom. Again it can be tricky to get because of pirates and mines around one of the gates. Its too slow for me but might be worth a look at.

I would suggest trying to find a few of the ships and then sell them at a shipyard. With the cash you can upgrade your Mercury (I hope your on easystart) and turn it into a sector trader then eventually a Universal trader. Keep doing this until you have a few of them flying around making you some money.

The start is very slow going so have patience with the game.

edit

Mr Flibble if you go into the command console on the ship you want to change and go to additional commands there is an option to remove homebase provided you have the latest patch.

Yes definately. The game is actually no easier or harder its just that you start with a little more money and you also get a free Mercury transport ship. If you are completely new to X3 it will take forever to get going without it.

wow yer started it i see my mercury. When i go to my command console thing and select trade all the options are grayed out so i cant tell it to trade, do i have to buy a software upgrade or anything ? or do i have to dock at a station and tell it to buy that stuff.
