X34 Vsync on or off? and where has my adaptive option gone?

Mines is same - 1080 and ROG Swift. Adaptive can't be used when G-Sync is activated. If you check, you can deactivate G-Sync then go to V-Sync options and adaptive and adaptive (half refresh rate) now appear.

Adaptive V-Sync is made redundant by G-Sync.

I have vsync set to off in global and use RivaTuner (Afterburner) to cap games just below max refresh rate. Seems to work well, although everyone will have a different opinion on what is the best method.

I have vsync on so that my FPS gets capped at 100. If below 100, then Gsync does its stuff.

So, on in driver and off in game.

Surely with this technology there is just one way?

Thats what is bugging me...There seems to be no definate answer...

Vsync on or off?

When you set gsync in the nvidia control panel it automatically sets vsync to on in the nvidia control panel. This is all you need to do. You then don't touch any sync options in the game. :)

I'm capping my max fps in riva tuner at 98 as it lowers input lag compared to when game is reaching 100fps and vsync is kicking in.
Yes it is noticeable.

Vsync on in nvidia panel and off in games, i've tested it in quite a few games and this way gives the smoothest results on my swift. An FPS cap a few frames below your monitors refresh rate will also reduce lag as others have said.

Believe it or not, on last but one drivers I found some minor tearing even with Gsync on in a few titles. That was capped at 144fps and 143fps. The games in question were Doom and Battlefront (most noticeable during vehicle combat). I then capped fps at 130 and this seemed to resolve it.

Haven't done much gaming on newest drivers, so unsure if that issue has been fixed.

One thing I would like implemented is an on screen display which you can toggle on and off that lets you know if Gsync is operating as it's meant to. As it stands, there is a visual indicator but it is a big intrusive indication and there in no way to toggle it off. Obviously you can use your eyes to see if Gsync is operating, but sometimes there are little subtle graphical artefacts or frame-rate issues that do make you question if all is well.

Capping frame rate below monitor refresh makes vsync redundant as it will never be in a situation where it requires to use vsync. I could just as easily leave vsync on, but I would still always cap frame rate below refresh rate.

On both my swifts GSync doesn't work properly if ya turn off VSync in the nvpanel. I dunno if it's just a swift thing but ya still get slight tearing in real fast moving games if you turn off the nvpanel vsync, even if ya turn it on in games, so i would just leave them it on if you get the same issue.

I just enable / ensure V-Sync in the Global settings of Nvidia control panel is enabled and works perfect. In game V-sync is turned off.

One thing I did find with recent drivers is unlike Prior drivers, enabling G-Sync did not automatically enable global V-Sync for me while prior drivers did. Was getting tearing as a result which was somewhat puzzling initally. Enabling Global V-sync in the Nvidia control panel again and the issue was gone, may be worth a check in your settings.

That could well be issue then, as I usually turn it off as this was always the default in past. Will give it a try next time I am running a game.

On my x34 i have Gysnc on and Vsync off as i play Cs Go a lot i can't deal with it being locked to 100. Even if i have it on in nvidia panel and off in game it still locked on cs go.

I have an XL2730z with Freesync and I usually have Vsync off in games.....all except one....actually it's two....they are the newer Wolfenstein games, The New Order and The Old Blood, where I was getting screen tear and I don't know why. I switched VSync on and it was smooth as silk. I have never had to switch VSync on in any game apart from those two, which are obviously running on the same engine etc..

Does anyone know why this is the case with those games?

make a profile for csgo that doesnt enable gsync..

really is that easy

NCP - vsync on

ingame - OFF

problem solved!
