X34 Vsync on or off? and where has my adaptive option gone?

Turning it off ingame usually isn't necessary but can ensure best compatibility.

Can also give fast a try with recent drivers. The V-Sync on and off option does something different when you have G-Sync enabled compared to what it does when G-Sync is disabled.

I have an XL2730z with Freesync and I usually have Vsync off in games.....all except one....actually it's two....they are the newer Wolfenstein games, The New Order and The Old Blood, where I was getting screen tear and I don't know why. I switched VSync on and it was smooth as silk. I have never had to switch VSync on in any game apart from those two, which are obviously running on the same engine etc..

Does anyone know why this is the case with those games?

They are probably not using exclusive fullscreen mode and/or some form of borderless window mode - you can enable fullscreen and window mode G-Sync usually to get them playing ball.

The are capped at 60fps...

Just to bump this a little, in BF1 I am getting screen tearing with vsync off in game which gsync should take care of, I have capped the fps to 99, do some monitors like mine still cause tearing?

Im getting tearing in Alien Isolation

I'm getting upwards of 180 FPS on my 1080 at 3440 x 1440 so I need to cap the FPS

Can this be done in game?

I couldn't find it last night...

As String noted, check in Nvidia Control panel. I mentioned few posts up, that I have found it does not always seem to get enabled recently when activating G-Sync and has randomly turned off. Only noticed myself when I was getting random tearing in Tomb Raider recently not knowing V-Sync had turned off

If the settings are set up properly with V-Sync selected in Global settings in Nvidia control panel, it should sync the fps to your panels max refresh rate, aka 100FPS.

will check tonight and report back..

Vsync is disabled in game Alien isolation but checked in NCP so I shouldn't be getting upwards of 100FPS?

Nope, that would be where the V-Sync in Nvidia control panel's Global settings steps in. Works well as G-Sync does its magic at anything below 100 fps and at 100 fps V-sync just caps your fps to the refresh rate.

What actual fps is showing when the tearing happens?
Do you have Vsync on in NCP?

Thanks for the reply, I have capped the FPS at 99 (shows 99 in game) with a user.cfg file tried 98 and 100 as well. NV control panel shows gsync enabled on full screen and vsync is using global settings.
I have tried forcing vsync off in nv panel and didn't make any difference.

Don't think so, not many games offer a cap without resorting to vsync.

Use the RivaTuner app that is attached to afterburner. To access it you may have to go in to afterburner settings and untick "use single icon" (it may not be that exact option but along those lines). This will bring up a new app icon in notification area. Click that and add Alien Isolation's exe file to list and select what you want to cap fps at.

I previously used OFF as that used to be the default setting when Gsync was activated. Like you however, I have experienced mild tearing (slightly below refresh rate as opposed to in your case above). I have since been informed that ON is now the default setting and have since changed to using that. I still maintain an FPS cap at just below the refresh rate as I would rather not get in to situation where vsync is being utilised due to the much higher latency this produces.

It would be a whole lot easier if instead of having Vsync options, once Gsync is activated the entire Vsync option became greyed out so that the behaviour was entirely consistent with Gsync and any problems with Vsync implementation in control panel could be ruled out.
