X360 disc unreadable!

I've had the error come up a few times playing oblivion. My current 360 is only a few weeks old, I hope it's not dying! :(

I'm pretty sure for oblivion some people suggest that clearing the cache (hold A when the game boots?) fix's the problem, worth a shot! Might be best searching though to find out exactly what to do, as I'm not 100% certain mate. :)

Yeah, you hold 'A' while oblivion loads to clear the cache but I doubt its that problem. Oblivion is the only game that has been played on that 360, and only for a total of 25hours. What happens is I'll either be talking to someone or going through a door and the disc stops spinning, then i get the disc unreadable message. Reboot the 360 and continue and its fine again. So it's probably a problem with the drive. I'll have to test it with some other games to see if I keep getting the problem or if it's just oblivion being buggy.

Well, the box was picked up last tuesday, and a refurbished one has been delivered today. There are a few marks on the casing, but nothing too major. The springy bit for the usb ports on the faceplate is broken and they just selotaped it back on. Not too chuffed about that.

Gonna plug it in later tonight.

I had the same issue with game discs in mine (as some others have said movie DVDs still worked correctly). I ended up taking it back to the place I purchased it, they were great and replaced it on the spot, didn’t even open the box. Sadly less than 2 weeks later the replacement died with the evil red circle. Now I have to take that back too.

Whole lot of fun.

They would be getting that back if it was me with a snotty letter or and phonecalls.

Got my 360 back today, this one is a refurb i think due to the date 07/12/2005. Everything on it was in mint condition it came in a sealed bag and all the bits had the protective covers etc. Played a fair bit on 99 nights and not had the problem once. :)

Hmmm, I am a bit worried now. My copy of N3 is doing this to :( Started while I was playing the second set of levels (big bloke with the throwing axe thingy) and cant get through the 3rd/4th level of the guy in blues levels without it telling me the disk is damaged.
Will have to try some other games out too to see if its the 360 (which has been replaced once already) or the disk.

Hmm doesn't sound good mate. Been reading around and some people suggest it could be down to a certain firmware used with the samsung drive. But then I've seen people get the errors with the Hitachi??! Its not just down to N3 though a lot of games appear to reproduce this error for no apparent reason.

On N3 or on another game? And when you say freezes is your xbox crashing or you getting the disc unreadable?

The screen just freezes and you can't do anything except reboot the console. It did it on PGR3 and the dashboard. Left it on last night to download some demo's, and it froze up on that. Haven't had this problem before on my previous 360.

Edit: I would exchange it at the retailer, but Asda has been out of stock of premiums for weeks.

Edit again: Anyone know if you can get an exchange for cash to buy from somewhere else? I'm off to uni next week so can't be ****** with this.

Ah sounds like a different problem mate. It could be on its way to the 3 lights of death! Definatly sounds like its on its way out though. I supose you could give a few more local ASDA branches a call? Or exchange it with MS?

The two closest Asda's are out of stock. One's not answering. The one furthest away at 4 miles has stock, but told me that i need everything in the box to do an exchange (£360 bundle, 2 games (which i don't have anymore), play and charge), and that there's only a 28 day guarantee which i know is BS. What to do now...

Edit: I was planning to buy the games from GAME and then doing a returns later on, but now the Asda store are basically telling me to **** *** and go back to the store where i bought it from to sort it out. I even threw in some quotes from the 'sales of goods act' cause they kept on saying it's over the 28 day period.

This is ridiculous, their website states all electrical products come with 1 year garauntee, so phoned them up again, and they still said no, which was confirmed by the duty manager. Called up the head office now. Worse customer service ever.
