X360 Encoding Video - WMV HD / Canopus ProCoder v2.04

Update on Playback.



1080p converted files played fine via USB Key
FFWD RWD were functioning with instant play, no stuttering or problems.

A 4GB USB Key or larger would be great for a selection of media and no issues with DVD drive noise.

Still await a simple video encoding solution but we may just have to be patient, one will arrive for this specific purpose.
 
I'm prepared to help as this is something I'm interested in too. transcode360 apparently needs Windows MCE so that counts me out. I can't seem to be able to find any downloadable version of Canopus so that too counts me out. What programs are there out there that convert .avi to .wmv?

Provided u have a legit version of Windows, you can just download the latest windows media encoder from the MS website. It will convert avi to wmv including HD.

For standard def stuff I really dont see the point though, use an on the fly transcoder like TVersity for XP or WM Connect plus transcode 360 if running media centre as long as youre happy having your pc on all the time.

For HD, offline transcode is the only viable option today due to the cpu / network bandwidth requirements.
 
I've got Tversity working last night and it seems to transcode half resolution HD video's just fine, I have it set to output to 1280x720 pixels, thankfully it utilises both cores on my 4200.

Looks pretty good :)
 
I think guys the forum would GREATLY benifit from a guide on Transcode or other apps that enable streaming.

Its giving people information on the alternatives and with a guide on the forums with a small overview, this means eventually in theory we could cover the best options:

1)Shows what each solution can and cant do
2)How easy/hard each is and the benifits of one to another
3)Enables someone to quickly see whats involved in getting it to work
4)Saves them a lot of time

Providing a few of us pull together and are willing to help in each different area its bound to be of interest to most X360 owners.

Thing is whos bothered able and willing?

Yeah but the point is once its converted the file can be burned or put onto a portable/USB device. This then means your not really having to bother with running both a PC and the X360. Also this is then played back directly from the "Media Blade"

Media Centre on X360 as its an extender will only playback files from a linked PC, am not aware of it allowing DVD playback or files from USB within Media Centre. Kinda odd why this is.....

I've used this Canopus ProCoder to convert about ten .mkv films to 720p or 1080p WMV-HD files so far. All look amazing and sound amazing in 5.1.
I convert them at around 9000-14000kpbs depending on the length of the film of course. Then burn them onto a Dual Layer DVD to playback on the Xbox360.

The only qwarm is that it does take ages to convert, around 22hrs for a full film on 720p, or upto 48hrs on 1080p!
But the result is totally worth it.

I'm just using ProCoder 2, didnt know there was a HD version. This version does all WMV HD formats anyway, upto 1080p with 7.1 surround sound.
