x360 gaming essentials?!

/engages yodarian mode...
Forget Fight Night 3 you must not hmm? Good game for two people it is yes, yes?

We did a OcUK best games league end of April and as you know it cannot lie.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17559302

My personal favourites are still Oblivion, COD2, Kameo, Condemned, Full Auto and Burnout:Revenge..
I'd add a 2nd tier of Tomb Raider, King Kong, Fifa (as it's the only footie game out yet although the Global Challenges are stupidly hard).

I personally couldn't stand PD0; where do I start, very awkward controls (compared to the sublime COD2), confusing mission designs, poor AI.... etc. Many people have really enjoyed it though so I'm happy to concede I know nothing.

from the games ive got PGR3 is a MUST, GR:AW SP is good but MP sounds great (havent yet tried it out) and im in love with NFS:MW i completed this ages ago on PC but im loving playing it again on the xbox, and amped3 is just insanely wierd yet so much fun :p

Some wicked advice there thanks guys :)

Think I may give PD0 a miss at first judging by the response, is there a demo out for it on Live that I can try before I buy ?

Once again thanks for the advice.

OK here's my advice :p

Go to screenselect and join up for your free months trial.
If you can't find a code I'll post one tonight for you.

Add loads of 360 games to your rentals list.

Games I have played:

Condemned - still freaks me out must find time to play it through. 10/10 for atmosphere.

KingKong - I hated this with a passion, kill it with fire (that's *** game summarised then). Was an easy peasy 1000 points though. Definately a rental. 4/10

Full Auto - I love it, I really like it, big yank cars with guns and bombs and mayhem. Not for the Michael Schumaker types but for ex van drivers and those of us prone to a spot of getting out the car to have a word with the guy who cut you up it rocks. 8/10

GUN - had it on rental, did not get to finish it. Really liked it. A sort of GTA western with hatchets. 8/10

CoD2 - the first game since Red Alert that I cba to finish. Brilliant a must play.9.5/10

Kameo - well..... it's quirky. Found myself strangely attracted to Kameos evil sister ;) I liked it, I even finished it but cba with getting all the achievements.9/10

Amped 3 - See my thread on that. Its snowboarding with lots of WTF! factor. Cba to get lesser or supreme snowgod achievements as it's a rental. If I owned it I'd get em all one day. I enjoyed it, kinda of relaxing and yet frustrating and very much a case of WTF SNOW SHARKS ?
7/10

Oblivion - I love this game. I really love it. But the time investment required is beyond me for now. 10/10

PGR3 - my first bit of OCUK online gaming back in december. Great fun online with a crowd. Singleplayer isn't really my thing with this - too much accuracy and too much of the same old thing. No guns. No bombs. No WTF!. 7/10

Other games I have yet to play but want to : tombraider legend, PDZ (own it yet to try it) GRAW.

Alternatives to renting include ....

Go to GAME and buy a 360 game, play for under 10 days and return it.
Always pay cash for this though and always get a cash refund.
Don't always return to the same branch.
try to return to the Game branch in the Marlowes in Hemel Hempstead and tell the manager there that you'll "see him after work". Leave before the police arrive.

We need to do this again and maybe find a way of comapring it with how many have played it. For example GUN is really good as is Amped 3 but hardly anyone has played them.

I'd join a rental to be honest if I was buying a 360 now. The only keepers are Graw and PGR for live replay value.

The rest you can rent.

Maybe slightly OT, but what rental sites do people on here recommend?

Gamesmonster.co.uk seem good, I'm on the 2 week trial and have had 3 games so far!

Far better than screenselect who appear to have very few 360 games and never send them to me :(

Bah that's cos I have them all lol. Have 3 currently from SS. But for 30 days free trial it's pretty decent.

Tried gamemonster and in 2 weeks I didnt get a single game for the 360. I had 6 game sin the list and got not one. So I cancelled before they took any money.

The trick with screen select is to set up with 10. Then run the list down to 5, ive been gettinf games with little problem then. I put 5 games and 5 dvds on the list, ran through the dvds quickly which then left only games.

Yep there's a demo that you can download mate - if you have a decent broadband connections download as much demos as possible!

I think there are demo's and definately trailers online for just about every game mentioned in this thread so far

I have not really found the demos to be very good indicators of what the final game is like to be honest. Full Auto demo was dull the game was good. King Kong demo was quite good the game was dull. The outfit demo sucked so hard the Dyson broke down in tears and yet the actual game's not that bad.

I like King Kong, must be a minority.

The main thing going for it was how short it is, didnt get boring and kept my interest!

Some more good reviews there, cheers!

What about the games that are also available for PC, is it worth getting them on 360 or are they pretty much the same ? For example i've played a little bit of Oblivion but it didn't feel that great performance wise due to my pc pretty much dieing with it ( x800xt ) - is it worth getting on the 360, nice and smooth ?!

I also have CoD2 on the PC, runs very nicely indeed, i'm assuming it's exactly the same on 360 ?

Thanks again!

Oblivion runs with a more standard set of fps, still not up to a top spec PC on the 360.

If you didnt get very far in then yes it is worth it, COD2 and Tomb Raider etc may not really be worth it, although TRL seems to be more polished on the controls from the demo.
