The K7 has 8 SATA and 2 SATA Express connections, I think I'm correct in thinking the Express's can be used as normal SATA?
i asked elsewhere on the forum if use of sata express disabled any regular sata but the replys still have me confused (they can be used as regular satas i just dont know if they share lanes with regular satas)

Not seeing any limitation on ECC with ASRock.

Dual Channel DDR4 Memory Technology
- 4 x DDR4 DIMM Slots
- Supports DDR4 2667/2400/2133 ECC & non-ECC, un-buffered memory*
- Max. capacity of system memory: 64GB**
- 15μ Gold Contact in DIMM Slots

*Please refer to below table for DDR4 UDIMM maximum frequency support.
Ryzen Series CPUs:
UDIMM Memory Slot Frequency(MHZ)
A1
A2 B1 B2
- SR - - 2667
- DR - - 2667
- SR - SR 2667
- DR - DR 2400-2667
SR SR SR SR 2133-2400
SR/DR DR SR/DR DR 1866-2133

SR: Single rank DIMM, 1Rx4 or 1Rx8 on DIMM module label
DR: Dual rank DIMM, 2Rx4 or 2Rx8 on DIMM module label

**Due to the operating system limitation, the actual memory size may be less than 4GB for the reservation for system usage under Windows® 32-bit OS. For Windows® 64-bit OS with 64-bit CPU, there is no such limitation.

No that's the point - I can't see any limitation, but yet other manufacturers are either not listing ECC support, or are specifically saying that it is disabled e.g. Gigabyte boards

Memory 4 x DDR4 DIMM sockets supporting up to 64 GB of system memory
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR4 3200(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2667/2400/2133 MHz memory modules
Support for ECC Un-buffered DIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8 memory modules (operate in non-ECC mode)
Support for non-ECC Un-buffered DIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8/1Rx16 memory modules

so this seems to be my choices

asrock X370 Professional Gaming AMD X370 (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
10 sata
Supports DDR4 2667/2400/2133
ultra m.2
cant find phase info

GA-AX370-Gaming K7
2 x SATA Express connectors
8 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors
Support for DDR4 3200(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2667/2400/2133 MHz
ultra m.2
6+4 Phase

X370 Taichi AMD X370
10 sata
Supports DDR4 2667/2400/2133
ultra m.2
12 + 4 Power Phase

what is more important "phases" or the higher supported ram speeds?

The professional gamer looks to have the same VRM as the taichi the ram speeds should balance out as new bios versions come out.
