Simple choice really: if you want DDR3 get the extreme, if you want DDR2 get the formula. DDR3 is very expensive atm though, and DDR2 is very cheap. Personally I went the DDR2 route since I wanted lots of RAM and the benefits of DDR3 are negligible with current CPUs.
You also have the option of waiting for the X48 Asus Rampage boards which will be out next month.
