x3870 x2 or x3870 crossfire?

Yeah, if you already own a 3870 and own a Crossfire motherboard, a second one is better bang for buck, than say a 3870X2, that said the new CrossfireX 8.3 drivers will allow you to crossfire a 3870X2 to a 3870, for 3x the GPU awesomeness.

(Disclaimer - ATI drivers may not actually do these things just because they claim they will)

Someone clarify for me:

Can you xfire a 38070xt and an x2 on a P35 board or will it need the 2 x16 lanes of a x38/x48 board?

you can xfire on a p35,

when they release the drivers that is, put the 3870x2 in the x16 slot and the 3870 in the x4 slot. Its what i intend to do for a while. im using xfire with 2 x 3870's at the moment, you dont get that much of a performance hit with the 2nd card running at x4

:D

i have a gigabyte x38 dq6 board which is running a 7900GT at the moment, i wanted a new card as the 7900GT keeps scrambling the screen when i exit from COD4.

so looks like it is an x2 then, next question which one?

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (825 Mhz)
HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (825 Mhz)
Asus ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (825 Mhz)
MSI ATI Radeon HD3870 X2 (850 Mhz)

they are all roughly the same price
