Looking to fully upgrade my system at last, will go for the 2700 or the 2700X so I won't be needing to upgrade CPU again in a very long time. Am thinking of going for a mid-top end board so that it lasts me a long time. My current board (ASUS Rampage GENE 2) has lasted me over a decade!
So I am hoping if go for a slightly more expensive board it will last longer/ as well as perform better?

Currently thinking about the ASUS CH7 although the GigaByte Gaming 7 also looks appealing. Taichi Ultimate looks like its not available yet. The site I saw pre-order available for the taichi it is showing as almost £250, about £25 pounds more compared to other 2.

Have not really done any upgrades or builds recently so wanted to know what peoples opinions are in terms of build quality value for money etc. I know reviews are out there/coming out but I prefer to hear experiences of real end users rather than sponsored reviewers.

If you want to overclock then go for the 2700, Only go for the 2700X if you don't plan on OC, the New Boost On the X will do all for you & not worth OC anymore on the X Version
All you need to know here

You can just go with the normal Taichi and save the £25. The only extra the Ultimate has is 10Gbit LAN and some one board power/reset buttons.

Any of those three boards will serve you well.

Aorus 7 you've got UK RMA and the best VRMheatsink out of the lot.
Taichi and Hero Bios lot slicker to use.

Believe the Taichi is 16 (14+2) phase
Aorus 12 (10+2)
Hero 12 (10+2)

Aorus and Hero have slight edge on sound

All 3 are cracking boards

Are these 16 phases on the ASRock more solid or are they equal to the 12 phases on the Gigabyte?

finally after days of hovering over the confirm button have placed my order, opted for the CH7 with 2700x. Just need to order myself some 8Pack Memory and I am all set. Opted for free delivery so will recieve the items next week.. I am ok with that, been over 10 years since my last CPU upgrade, few more days wont hurt :p

You'll have to see board reviews for parts breakdowns .
Can't remember if Aorus use the same ones on their H370 board which is properly the most solid set out currently :/

Their bios needs improving on the gaming 7 Aorus, I know you read OC3D review...

Sadly though, as ever Gigabyte have been let down by their BIOS team and this is really down to their load line calibration issues again. We must have reported this at launch for the last 10 releases and if we are honest we are bored of keep having to go on about it. It took their R&D guys 5 days to even bother to replicate it after our initial report and request for them to try and get it sorted. We do this to try and help them make sure YOU guys get the best possible product when you buy it but yet again they are happy to let you guys buy something that hardware wise awesome, yet firmware wise substandard. Because of this attitude they do not get an award and till that BIOS gets fixed we would say in all honesty dont buy it. When it is rectified we will retest and report back but it has taken them months to fix issues in the past so if you have to make a decision now and your finger needs to click 'buy' we would advise pick something else. They should have had a better BIOS covering the basics at launch. Rant over.

Says a lot when it is like 10 releases and nothing done about it, personally I go with Asus ,Asrock or MSI.

Asus Strix got a great review,https://overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/asus_rog_strix_x470-f_gaming_review/1 .

The ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming was the final motherboard we looked at and to a reasonable degree we think that - unintentionally - we've saved the best for last. The MSI M7 might outperform it at the high end, the Gigabyte Gaming 7 might be flashier, the Crosshair VII has more connectivity options, but the Strix has monstrously good stock performance and damn fine overclocking performance to boot. We often see motherboards that overclock well being slightly soft at stock, because the design is intended to be pushed hard, and good stock performance doesn't always equate to high overclocking because normally that means that the motherboard is already slightly overclocked to gain a little bit at stock. The Strix seems to do both of these things well. Clearly the stock performance is outstanding, regularly finding itself not only at the top of the stock group of motherboards in our graph but in the thick of the action with the overclocked setups too.

tis a shame, though tend to trust users on here more then reviewers. cant wait to see more boards in action from all vendors. though personal would chose B350/B450 over X chips :D

hoping strix and gaming 3 and maintain the pace again :D

Well can always wait :), never know what is around the corner, Asus and MSI in general have great BIOS support, my almost seven year old Asus board is still doing well with [email protected], problem is I have the upgrade itch lol so do I go for it or hold off a bit :) .

My ASUS Gene II is over 10 years old now and still working perfectly! Although saying that maybe 2-3 years out of that 10 my PC was just gathering dust.
Finally decided to upgrade to a new CPU, would have kept the mobo if it supported the new cpus.
Just ordered myself a new PSU so will be putting all my old parts into a case for my nephew, can prob run fortnite etc on a decent setting using my old HD7770.

You don't want to know how old my Epox motherboard is with my AMD 64 X2 ATHLON 3800+ on my Linux PC ;) .

Anyway I think some users will hold of and wait for the B470 boards or see how Intel respond to the Ryzen2, anyway win win for the consumer IMHO.
