Hi,
I've just finished installing Windows XP x64 on a rig to be used almost exclusively for gaming and was wondering what is the best combo. The games I will probably be playing mostly are:

UT
UT2004
COD2
C&C TFD (all of them!)
Warhammer: Dawn of War + expansion pack
Total War Rome

Now I know UT2004 has a x64 patch out but I’m not sure about the others. What I’d like to know is what games have x64 patches out there and are they worth installing. I’m sure I read somewhere that UT2004 works best on a x64 system running the 32bit version, can someone confirm this?
Cheers,

HL2 has a 64bit version, which makes sod all difference really.

I think you could potentially have problems with C&C, espescially the oldest one.

I use it though and it's fine, cept my printer doesn't work. No great hardship since I haven't needed to print anything since I left uni!

Chronicles of Riddick has a 64bit mode too, but it's actually slower than the 32bit one.

I ended up going back to plain old XP eventually, there was just bugger all driver support for x64.

If you do stick with it there's a tool called ORCA which is used to edit .msi installation files. You can use it to disable to the operating system check, so the game won't tell you it can't install.

Yea looks like I'll be doing the same not because of the drivers but the only stats I can find show games running slightly slower under Windows XP x64. I might go back to running Win XP STBE :(

If there was one, it would have been posted by now.

Its a shame as I would have thought that it'd be the first thing people would do when an x64 patch came out.
