Hello,

Would this be a good X79 build?

Dominator platinum 2133 cas 9 1.5V
Samsung 840 512
ASUS Rampage iv formula
Noctua nh-u14s
I7 4930k
Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 10 1200W
SB z
Fractal design r4 xtra fläkt 140 mm
Msi SLI GTX 780
Gelid solutions gc-extreme

Epic build you've got there. Personally, I'd put an h100i in (primarily for aesthetic reasons).

If the op is looking into overclocking both the cpu and cards, 1200w is maybe a good idea. Particularly the gpu's if wishing to do any clocking that involves adding extra voltage. A pair of voltage unlocked 780's will draw a lot of power.

Hello,

Thanks for the replies folks.

It is a gaming build. Originaly I had a haswell 4770k build but i think it is wiser to get a x79 system instead. For a sli config i think this is a better choise.

Agree that a 1200w psu may seem over the top. I actually had a ~800watt first planned but then I read that the more powerfull the psu is the less it generates noise and heat when operating at 50%. Therefore the 1200w. The B Quiet is also a heck of a quality psu.

Hey Gronbek, When you say you had a 4770K you mean you were going to build it? or you've sold it or what?
If it still exists cant you use bits from it? Also depending on the mobo two GPUs on a haswell system are fine its only when you start getting into three and four way that x79 bandwidth shows through.
Also if you already have a 4770k you might be better waiting for haswell-e as x79 will get replaced with x99 chipset.

Agree with ndaar here, there are quite a few users on here running 780 sli on 4770k based systems. Iirc one user is running x3 titans on one and the cards arent crippled in performance.

Hello,

I am using a Q6600 based system since years back. The 4770k i mentioned was the original plan for my new computer. I scrapped that idea since 4930k seems more like a wiser choise.

In terms of gaming, you won't notice any difference really, besides the extra cost. SLI cards with a 4770k seems a wiser option for yourself.
