Hi All,
After lurking around a few forums, I thought this forum was probably one that stood out in terms of "accepting" noobs to the scene.

I want to go SandyBridge-E for an extra PC for rendering on Cinema 4D, After Effects. I do a lot of 3D compositing on Boujou, PFTrack and Mocha.

I will have a Dual Monitor Set-Up for this build. I have a Drobo for all my work. So I wont need anymore hard drive space. The 1000watt PSU might be overkill for the system, please advice me on this. Also I was wondering if the 580 was worth it? Should I upgrade or downgrade. I wont be using this for gaming much as I already have a SandyBridge i5 build for gaming.
I don't want to watercool as I have no time to learn how to do that. This will be my 3rd EVER PC build. so I'm pretty new to the game. I also heard that the HAF-X is one of the best aircooled chassis out there. I need my build to be cool as. The machine will be rendering for more than 5 days (Cinema 4D).

I am going to overclock the CPU, but I've heard maxing out the DIMM slots limits the overclock. I am willing to test that out, does anyone know what I will be able to overclock my CPU to?

If anyone has any suggestions on this build I am happy to listen. Sorry to bother anyone some other forums are ******* harsh to noobs. (sorry if i haven't laid out the build properly)

Looks like a solid build for the work you will be doing, overclocking on the X79 is quite easy however results can be varied. The PSU is the same one as I have, it might be overkill at the mo but if for any reason you decide to add other stuff like a 2nd GPU you have the headroom there if you need it.

I agree, looks to be a solid build.

Only thing to check on would be whether AE or C4D can make use of CUDA and/or SLI. I'm sure there will be info on that in their own forums.
If it does maybe swap the 580 for a 670, unless you have more money to spend, in which case a 680.

If you want to water cool you could buy one of OCuK's watercooled cases. They have done all the WC work for you.

The only other thing you didn't mention was the OS. Just remember Win7 Home Premium doesn't support over 16gb Ram. You would need Professional or Ultimate.

thanks for all your input guys. I have swapped out, the 1000w for the 1250w. I hadn't noticed the pre-watercooled cases!!!! In that case I might go for the 800D. Clean lines, and a great window to marvel at the intestines. One question though, how do the "pre-watercooled" cases from OcUK come? <- I'm sorry if this question sounds noobish.

I have a 2 more OEM versions of Windows 7 Professional Ready to install. I know we're not allowed to mention anything regarding a certain dual boot, but that particular OS has unlimited system installs.

I found out that Cinema 4D doesn't use CUDA/SLI like the autodesk applications do.

On Maxon's website I found this:

Does my graphics card make any difference in rendering?

Rendering utilizes the CPU and RAM. If the Project fits completely within memory, processing power is the only hardware factor in rendering. If the Project doesn't fit into memory, hard drive speed has some effect due to virtual memory swapping.

Graphics cards won't affect rendering speed, but will speed up the redraw in the Viewport, enabling you to work more interactively with complex Projects.
