Hi Guys,

About to order some parts to build a x79 system, I use it for gaming plus virtual machines/testing for work plus the usual media stuff, I would go for a 2600k but I don't think I'm going to be able to upgrade for the next 2 years (wedding) so would like to get as good as I can. Oh and I'd like it to look pretty cool as I've never had a "nice looking" Pc
I have little O/C experience and would like to give it a try, what do you guys think of the intel tuning warranty?

this is what I'm thinking of,

cpu 3930k + h100

mobo either Asus Rampage IV Formula Asus P9X79 PRO Gigabyte X79-UD7 Gigabyte X79-UD5

Ram Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) red or black depending on board I'l up the memory next month

PSU Corsair HX 750W ATX Modular mostly because of the 7 year warranty

Case 600t

Any suggestions tips or comments please :)

P.S I seen the video on youtube of the gigabyte overheating and I think I read somewhere that its because of the h100 not blowing air over the socket and power, do these board also suffer the same?

Thats actually a little VRM issue they have had to re-call, improving the air flow wont fix that.

Heres a start, the RAM is much cheaper and still 1600Mhz with very similar timings, get more when you can to take it to quad channel.

A MSI motherboard, sell the free cooler.

A Corsair case that easily takes the H100,


And a quality Seasonic PSU - http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=165 - it is the same unit apparently but renamed to XXX so they could use the Black Edition name on the Platinum line.

The Kingston RAM is a bargain, also the RAM speed and timings dont make much difference, 1600Mhz and modest timings is the sweet spot.

No particular reason on the motherboard apart from its £50 less than the ASUS Rampage and includes a free heatsink to sell on.

What's the Kingston like for reliability? never owned any Kingston ram before,

Not sure on the case, Never had a windowed case and quite fancy one this time, thus the 600t.

could I get away with a 750watt or do you think I should go with the 850 xfx?

Plenty of units sold, dont recall ever seeing anyone with any issues and i've been here a while.

Really depends on the GFX card/cards you are after.

A 750W PSU will take any single GFX card or SLI GTX570 or Crossfire 6970/7970's

A 850W PSU is good for SLI GTX580's etc.
 
I'm probably going to save for a single 7970 or maybe the nvidia 670/680 will be out by then but will only be a single card I suspect.

Ive heard about the phantek, Do they have the bigger mount? which works better on the 3930k.

what do you guys think of the intel tuning warrinty?

also whats better in a very hot room (in summer) h100 or air cooling/phantek? The pc will be on the inside wall of a house in the attic so it gets very hot! :)

XSPC RX 240 kit or the OcUK V8 watercooling kit will both be better. The H100 is pure crap :)
