Gentlefolk, I have been asked to put together a watercooled gaming system by a relative who, wants a gigabyte assassin 2 with 32gb of 2400 ram. this i find daunting to say the least because i have never done this before. the lead time is very good 3 months, he wants a 900d case. i need expert advise please, thanks in advance

What in specific are you looking for, You have the case, spec up the mobo, the ram , the CPU (I5 or i7?) , cooling (All in one eg: H100i, or custom loop) , GPU? (new GPU's out in may) . PSU (Never buy budget) and speaking of budget, What is your's?

OP you need to post more info on what you want to use the system for.

On thing you should consider is the memory, 2400mhz can work on X79 but keep it to 16gbs or the CPU IMC may not be up to it. For most things 16gbs is loads.

Also if it was me building an uber X79 rig I would use an Asus Rampage IV Extreme mobo.

If you want 32Gb of RAM @ 2400MHz then you will have to make sure you have a very good IMC on your CPU.
As above, i would advise you settle for 16Gb. If for some reason you NEED the 32Gb then go for 2133MHz.

Thank you for answering, after this morning this is getting way above my head, my cousin and his son want to share now. one wants an uber gaming rig my cousin wants top end rendering and now has mentioned xeon cpu`s. put together many x79 rigs using re4 but, he now states a watercooled twin cpu board as well as 32gb ram. Advise would be a life saver on this, thanks in advance

Do you want a spec?

If so what is the budget?

Still in a 900D?

No budget not a problem, a spec would be great please but, can you game with those cpu`s, and yes we will wait for the 900D, thanks again

You can game with xeons but they are limited by their clock speed so if you go heavy on the graphics cards, they could be bottlenecked.

Jeez that's one hefty budget you have there lionheart.

If so this is what I'd go for mate, remove items you don't need of course (OS, monitor etc, you haven't specified)

I dunno if this is gonna cost too much, and I would wait for Ivy-E coming out soon after Haswell is released. ;)

You'll have to get someone else to spec you the water-cooling bit, crazy system there. Perfect for rendering and mindblowing for gaming... If budget allows it.

That looks very good to me, he was saying to go go with 2x xeon 2687`s, which i believe you cannot overclock so what is the point, thank you so much, yes will go with the monitor as well. Now to research how to ruddy well to do it. Spending that much i would get a hardened water cooling prof to do it. Thank you very much again.

You really need to sort out which way to go with your rig, I use four Titans in mine and there is no way a xeon CPU or 2 could cope with them, if you can not overclock to nearly 5ghz the results can be awful graphically in some games.

What it comes down to is you can have a uber games rig with an overclocked 3930k/3970x which is also very good at rendering or you can have 2 xeons which are better at rendering but will bottleneck several Titans with poor results.

This thread confuses me.

The client knows more than the service provider....the service provider is scared of the build.
